And Teak Pies who finally was able to help Karla.

Hi Joffa

It was wonderful to finally meet you last Saturday night at the Gabba, where we made the trip down for 6 year old Karla to see her first live game in her life. We have attached the wonderful photo of you and Karla (which she now has on her bedroom wall).

After the story of “A little Magpie with a broken heart” we ended up with a very happy ending to this story. We live in Central Queensland in a country town 3 hours west of Rockhampton called Emerald. At the end of November last year my 5 year old daughter Karla and I had to escort my elderly father to hospital in Brisbane. On our way home we had to take 2 different trains to get to the airport.

A few minutes after getting off the first train Karla realized she had left her backpack on the train, which really would not have mattered that much except for the fact her beloved Collingwood teddy bear was in there. He is everything to her after been given to her by her cousin, Susan Pannam when she was born. As our family is a related to the Pannams and the Richards families, it was decided the bear would be named after famous uncle Lou Richards. So “Louie Bear” then went everywhere with her and never left her side. That is until this dreaded day.

We informed the railway station who had every staff member looking for the backpack, they searched the train but nothing was found. After a few hours of tears and looking for Louie we boarded our train to the airport and finally arrived home in Emerald heartbroken. After a day or two my husband had the brilliant idea to email Joffa with our problem and maybe he and the wonderful Magpie Army could find a look alike bear. That is exactly what happen, after Joffa put the story on the web site we had emails from all over Australia with Magpie fans wanting to help us.

Michael Thompson (Teak Pies) had a bear exactly the same as our Louie. He posted him to us and was so pleased to help us out. Thank you once again Michael, Karla will never forget your generosity. We were so happy with the outcome of this situation and thought the outcome could not be better when about 2 weeks after Louie was lost Queensland Rail phoned us with the news the backpack had been handed in with the little old ragged bear still inside. They sent Louie on “The Spirit of the Outback” train home to Karla. She met him at the station and of course had a welcome home party (including a cake) for him. Now Michael’s “Louie Bear” is safely locked away just in case we ever have another accident with Louie again.

Once again a huge thank you to the wonderful “Magpie Army” for all their help and well wishes.

As we live so far away from Aussie Rules territory it is hard for us to get to any games however if we can get tickets we are going to try to get to the ANZAC day match next year. If we do we will be sure to come and see you again.

Kindest Regards

Shelly and Karla Foody

The Little Magpie with a Happy Heart.
