Post subject: Who Owns Collingwood FC? | |
|
Simple question really.
I'm assuming it's not my mate Eddie Everywhere, he's just the president.
Do we the members own the club? Or is it these 'cotiterie' groups I have heard so much about? What are these groups? I understand that they are often responsible for undermining coaches, presidents etc like Sheedy, Knights and Wallace. Does Collingwood have cotitieries? What can we do to stop them from exerting their evil influence over our club?
Or is the club owned by the cheer squad? Or does it have no owner?
This is all very confusing. I know that the Swans and the Bears were owned outright by a gay doctor and a gayer businessman a couple of decades ago. But who owns the pies?

I would assume that it is an incorporated body that is owned in theory by its voting membership "social club members" who appoint a board who in turn appoint a General Manager to oversee the clubs daily affairs. This is a guess on my part?
Good question when it comes down to it. _________________ Now Retired - Every Day Is A Saturday |

The club isn't "owned" by anyone really.
Someone else will need to explain the structures, but it is essentialy works where the board and president are like trustees who operate the running of the club - with social club members able to vote on certain things (though some people will argue this point).
The AFL own our logo and colours (not sure about the colours) IIRC though.

It's a strange one, because technically, the AFL owns the "right" to Collingwood, or at least it owns our license to compete in the AFL.
As I understand it, the AFL leases out the license to each club at a very minimal (and maybe even non existent) cost, and then it's up to the club to run that club as it sees fit.
I believe the WCE are an "exception" to the rule though, as they are owned by a consortium of WA mining organisations.
As for who really "owns" Collingwood, the simplest answer is the "fans", as we are the biggest shareholders in the organisation throughout membership each season.
But really, this is just my understanding of the ownership situation in the AFL, someone here probably knows even more the me. |

That's about right Joel. SC members do have voting rights. Hard to work out how much power we have. _________________ Go Pies !!!! |

Collingwood FC is a not for profit and therefore is not "owned" and has no shareholders. The only question would be in the event of dissolving where do any proceeds go? The answer would lie in the constitution which I don't have a copy of. There are members but they have limited rights and this is also set out in the constitution. "Members" are not the equivalent of "shareholders". |

Oh, like an incorporated association? I get it.
What about these cotiterie groups? What are they, and how do we protect Mick from them? |

There would be all sorts of coteries within our Club ... some official ones, as in the website list, probably others too, not so clearly labelled as such.
Whether or not they exert any undue influence might be debatable.
I'd say that our Club is owned by the members, but whether or not this has anything at all with who rules? _________________ Side by side we Stick together |
