Hey all, just wondering if anyone knows how to burn a DVD on to a computer? I have one of my local football grand finals I would like to put up on Youtube, but the only way I can get it on there would be to burn it from the DVD. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You're going to need software to copy (or rip) the video off the DVD.

I use Nero and do a "Back up" copy, but there's plenty you can use, try one of these.

Here's the one I use, if it helps.

http://www.dvddecrypter.org.uk/

This is more for 'official' DVDs - if it's just a file on a burnt disc in the first place, you probably don't even need any fancy software.

I think that's being lifted or recently has been for long time users, I'd try vimeo... as an online backup as well.

I thought that aswell, but lately I have been seeing videos as long as fifteen minutes. So I thought I'll give it a shot.

Joboshare and you can't miss. It shrinks the DVD files and burns them all in one go. Will copy virtually any disk.

Go to downloads.com and you can buy it for the price of a new DVD.

DVD Shrink is free, but you also need Nero to burn the files.

20/20 vision. OK, I am more than usually fussy about picture quality, being both a computer technician and a photographer, but You-tube picture quality is appallingly bad, and zooming a tiny little postage-stamp sized image up to full screen just makes it even more obvious.

(Not really their fault, I hasten to add - like everyone else, they are limited by the bandwidth available to the average home. Roll on the NBN!)

I will indeed. So will you. But there are compensations:

(1) It will still be vastly cheaper than the current system, under which we all subsidise the absurdly expensive and massively under-performing Telstra network. Yes, we have to shell out to build the infrastructure, but it saves us bucket loads of money overall because we no longer have to subsidise Telstra's monopoly.

(2) It will actually work properly most of the time.

(If you don't believe (2), simply look at it this way: can you imagine a network that works even more badly than the Telstra one? No. Neither can anyone else. It's probably not possible. But in any case, the NBN has several massive advantages, reliability-wise. (a) It's fibre - i.e., immune to most of the things that go wrong with copper. It even works under water. (b) It is not a pastiche of different, semi-incompatible technologies implemented with equipment anything up to 50 years old. (c) It is maintained by an organisation dedicated to maintaining the network (as opposed to Telstra, which is dedicated to spending as little as possible and maintaining their monopoly, not least by shafting customers who sign up with any other company).)

Thank you very much for your help and input everyone! Much appreciated.

I ended up getting what I wanted up on Youtube, and will hopefully soon have the whole game up!

But this, is the main thing I wanted on there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hz-bu84-hWA&feature=feedu

Thanks again!
