Hi,

I'm trying to meet a friend for a beer/cider before going to the game on Saturday. Anyone know of any nice, quiet pubs within walking distance?

Quiet pubs near the MCG on a finals football day are few and far between, how far do you consider walking distance?

A little way down Bridge Rd is the Spread Eagle which is a good little pub and will miss a bit of the football crowd.

A few pubs North of the MCG around Victoria Pde might be a better option for you, google: Prince Patrick Hotel, Baden Powell Hotel.

A lot of decent pubs in Fitzroy and Collingwood will miss the crowds as well, The Builders Arms on Gertrude St or the Union Club on Gore St might fit the bill.

- The Cricketer's Arms: on Punt Rd near Richmond station (across the road from Punt Rd oval.

- The Westpac Centre (Cafe and Bar)

- The Precinct: Swan Street, across the road from Richmond station (Pub that Luke Darcy owns)

- There's quite a few little places up Swan street including the Swan hotel, the Great Britain and the Post Office.

- Transport at Federation Square and Young and Jacksons are next to Flinders Street station but only about 10 mins stroll through the park to the G.

none of them fit the "quiet" bill.

I didn't notice the 'quiet' bit.

The Swan hotel isn't too noisy.

The Cricketer's arms and Precinct are super noisy and very 'bogan.'

Some of those pubs on Victoria parade that Sharrod_theiceman recommended are quiet and not bad: the Baden Powell or Prince Patrick.

I quite like a beer at the Belgian Beer cafe, which at the base of Eureka tower. Usually nice and quiet in the early afternoon. 15mins walk from the G, 5 mins walk from Flinders St station.

CRICKETERS ARMS. But we only go there post game, to celbrate a win and let the crowds disperse over a couple of frothies.

Mrs Parmas at the top of Little Bourke St (Spring St end) - great feed, great choice of beers on tap, misses most of the footy crowd, and a nice leisurely 5-10min stroll through the gardens to the G.
(stick with beer mate - Cider before footy???? Shocked )
