I was at the match in 1979 at Princes Park when Carlton introduced the bluebirds.
That game was notable for an incident in which Stan Magro ironed out Carlton captain/coach Alex Jesaulenko. Collingwood surrendered a 4 goal lead to lose the game. That scenario was repeated in the Grand Final when Collingwood surrendered an almost 4 goal lead to lose the game. Jesaulenko also got injured in that game and missed the finale. Couldn't blame Magro for that one.
Back to the Princes Park game, I remember the Collingwood cheer squad putting up a banner which read "Cheap Trashy Americana".
Right on. Who needs this!
Instead of cheer leaders it would be better if the club and the players gave the supporters something to cheer about.

First they privatize the banner making and holding it up now they want this.

What kind of loons are we employing at The Westpac Centre.

I'd like to give all those cheerleader hopefuls a try-out, but not pre-match.

I'm sick of the game changing so much. Imagine a day when we go to the football and there are cheerleaders, dancers, music or even fireworks! We don't need all the gimmicky crap to try to make it exciting. How about we try to preserve what little is left of our game. Don't do it Collingwood!!

I'm never averse to eye candy but this probably sums it up for me. Timing is appalling.

I can see where this idea has come from, with the MLB visiting Sydney last week and exposing just how bad the AFL's matchday experience is compared to other sports, but cmon, cheerleaders, no, JUST NO.

Game just gets getting closer to be Americanized. I don't mind it if they do it Right. Just have them Before Games,Qtr Breaks , Half Time and End of Game.

Nothing During the Game.

Though I think this will Fail

There's a lot of talk up here about getting rid of them after a feminist suggested they were just eye candy (imagine that?) but the cheer leaders love it (even the ones in Canberra who perform in near freezing conditions.

I hope the Collingwood think long and hard about this as it really is an anachronism. I remember the wags suggesting we could call ours the Maggets after the Sydney's Swanettes.

I'd prefer they spent the money on more recruiting scouts.

I go the footy to watch the Pies play football. Not Dancers/Cheerleaders/soft porn. If I wanted to see that I'd have membership with the performing arts group or some sort of Mens' club.

At the breaks I like to catch up with my mates who I only see at the footy. This is increasingly difficult to do with the increase volume of music and adds during breaks, which is played up to the very second of the opening bounces.

I love loud music. My standard car stereo isn't loud enough. But when I'm try to talk to someone, I like to have a conversation, which means the other person can hear me and I can hear them a few seats away. This is not possible. Unless your right next to them , it's an effort to hear them.

I also have a certain taste in music too. So they are effectively jamming down my ears, what I (or many others) don't necessarily enjoy.

I don't need to be entertained every minute by someone. I can happily arrange my own personal entertainment while the game is not on. I can read, listen to my own music, have a conversation with mates or other supporters etc. Why am i forced to endure other peoples ideas of entertainment during the breaks.

End of my rant, but it does piss me off a bit. In the words of my family during my teenage years......"Turn it Down!"

Will this mean America will take something of our game in exchange?
What about the world of sport Wood Chop or some 80s 'clappers'?

I think everyone's posts here fairly well sum up the sentiments. But i too am going to add my voice to the crowd in the hope someone from the club reads this. And knocks this ridiculous concept on the head.

If I want to watch tacky dancing Collingwood, I will go to a nightclub on a Saturday night.

We don't need this, we already have good gate numbers. Please listen to your fans for once instead just acting on a hairball boardroom idea.

*Two thumbs down (Spinal Tap puppet show style)*

Ditto.

Why does everything have to be an experience? Why can't the powers that be accept that supporters are there to watch the footy??

I'm off to Twitter to tell them they are twits.
