We went nude swimming at Black Rock with some couchsurfers a few years ago (except I think it was the main area, not the secluded section). Might have to give that area a wide berth for the foreseeable future!

Which is what I was arguing for from the beginning of this thread. Indecent sexual behaviour is just as inappropriate on a clothing-optional beach as it is on a regular one.

^ Given your views, David, why ? Consenting sexual behavior doesn't actually hurt anyone ...? Wink

Lola said the same thing when I asked her (and you all think I'm the radical one!). Razz

In theory, perhaps in a more liberated society we could have sex in public like bonobos. But that is a fundamentally different (and much more radical) proposal than the one I'm making.

For whatever reason, it's generally thought to be psychologically harmful for young children to witness sexual activity. This is why we have a film classification system, and why you can't put pornography on the plasma screens at Big W. In contrast, most developmental psychologists agree that it is beneficial (and certainly harmless) for children to be exposed to non-sexualised nudity. At the end of the day, we're talking about two completely issues, and allowing public sex is a much bigger bridge to cross than allowing people to swim au naturel at the beach.

You may be alarmed to know that I've recently discovered a passion for nude swimming. Like most people, I was initially excited by the idea of doing something a bit weird and transgressive; as it turns out, it just feels so much nicer and more natural than swimming in a pair of board shorts. When I did it for the first time, I found myself wondering why everybody didn't do it.

I swim with the snake when ever I can!

Yes, it is true. I was just tweaking your transgressive impulse. Sex can exploitative, and non-sexualised nudity probably ain't.

A fundamentally different and much more radical proposal than the one he or she'm making is a terrible thing to waste.
