Post subject: When a trifecta becomes the quadrella
|
Hawthorn,s job on Geelong Easter Monday was a possible warning to the comp that
they are very much still the team to beat for the flag in 2015 giving them the trifecta
History of VFL /AFL shows only Carlton in ,06 ,07 & 08 -Collingwood ,27,28,29 & 30-
Melbourne in 39 ,40 & 41 then ,55,56,& 57---lastly Brisbane 2001,02 &,03 have gone further
than back to back.
There has been the opinions and speculations that we are still a bit off from snagging a
flag with 2016 /2017 being mentioned.
IF the Hawks pick up the trifecta this year and make GF in 16 what a box office billing if
we line up in 2016 GF.
The ghost of 1958 may walk the G _________________ I'm not arguing--just explaining why i am right |

What is impressive about the Dorks is their ability to address their weaknesses. The Free Agency may have given them a boost for keeping a quality list together and fixing problem areas which is the kind of rule change that allows for three-peats etc.
When we looked dominant in 2010/11 the AFL seemed hell-bent on changing rules to stop the pies rotation supremacy, now it seems to be going the other way?
A few years back the Dorks were also a running team primarily with a scattering of stars and although they showed glimpses of tough footy they preferred a soft game IMO… that has changed over the last year with the team applying lots of physical pressure on opponents. Their intensity has lifted… and it is always puts pressure on a player when there is someone heading straight for you!
If the Hawks are to be stopped it will take a collective effort with teams physically targeting them each week - injuries will occur and they may suffer with some key outs - because at this early stage of the year they look as strong as any time over the last 3 seasons…
Time to see if these guys bleed! _________________ Love us or Hate us... we are Collingwood - you can't ignore the Mighty Magpies!!! |

The dorks can be beaten by relentless physical pressure. Once we get Greenwood back in the side in the second half of the season, I think we'll have a much more physically imposing midfield, especially as Crisp and De Goey develop into fearsome tackling machines.
The swans last year and the Pussies yesterday failed to assert any physical pressure whatsoever. Buckley is building a very powerful and physically imposing team. We can beat the dorks this year. |

A trifecta is 1st. 2nd. & 3rd. - not 3 in a row. _________________ Donny.

I reckon 3 in a row in an 18 team competition would be just as impressive as 4 in 12. If not, more.
4 in a row in today's day and age, without AFL assistance, is beyond belief. _________________ Formally frankiboy and FrankieGoesToCollingwood. |

Clubs need to stop trading with them. They also need to believe it or not put a tag on a defensive midfielder (Mitchell) and to actually do something similar on Gibson. Perhaps a Toovey like player on Gibson (although I would prefer a Ben Johnson) so if he he does go on a waltz he is killed on the rebound. Or finds that if third man up he is murdered on the ground. Breust and Gunston get easy shots as well. man on man might work if they are forced to actually get to a contest. _________________ Annoying opposition supporters since 1967. |

Hawthorn always smashes teams who play zone defences because they're such good users of the ball and just kick it around and toy with the opposition.
I hope Buckley changes his ways this year and actually implements a game of man-on-man footy when we play them later this year because zoning off them for the past three seasons hasn't worked whatsoever. Man-on-man footy works best when the team has excellent fitness levels and therefore it can be sustained through four quarters but I'm not sure our fitness levels are considered 'excellent' to beat the Hawks hence we take the conservative but unspectacular approach of zoning off them.
Forcing a contest is the best way to beating the Hawks and of course having relentless tackling pressure. It's easier said than done but the Hawks aren't invincible even if Monday's performance and their Grand Final performance last year saw them playing at peak condition. It should be noted that they were very lucky to not be eliminated in the Preliminary Final against Port Adelaide but the same also applies to their narrow Preliminary Final wins in 2012 and 2013 as well. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023
