I'd be very surprised if he was ready next week. Whiplash injury can be nasty but everyone's different & the extent is not known to us mere mortals.
He's interviewed on the club website: Neck ligament was torn with some bleeding / bruising. However, it is the extent that is the issue here. They will be conservative but no long term damage apparently.

Outside of Reid Greenwood has many more runs on the board in terms of quality AFL performances than all the other names you've mentioned and hasn't had the same ongoing soft tissue concerns as Reid.
I reckon if Greenwood can play 4 quarters next VFL round and play decently he's a good shot of coming in for the hawks even if it's only as the sub. |
when ready to go i'd expect greenwood to get a full game first up. _________________ Purveyor of sanctimonious twaddle. |

after seeing him in the VFL it'd be safe to say he needs to lose a few kgs before he has an impact at AFL level. Looked a bit like Lance Whitnall out there! |

Reid, Greenwood, Grundy and Scharenberg will be seen as not ready, IMO.
Change I would like to see (barring any injuries):
OUT: Seedsman

they'll probably go conservative with:
IN: Blair
OUT: De Goey (hand inj or omitted) _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

I think De Goey is getting better with each game and will keep his spot. I expect Blair will come in for either Seedsman or Kennedy. |

I'd rather someone with more pace than Blair against the Eagles on that ground, either Kennedy or Seedsman, probably Kennedy as Seedy is obviously NQR. But that won't happen.
Goldsack is the other worry. He's obviously not right, he played at three-quarter pace on Sunday. If the week off is enough to get him right, he's worth his weight in gold to our inexperienced defence, but if he's not back in perfect shape, leave him out and take Marsh over instead. Bit of height, bit of pace, that's a like-for-like replacement.
Oh, one other thing: if you are going to take a player in who isn't up for four quarters yet, there is absolutely no reason why he has to be the sub. It makes no difference whether you sub Greenwood in halfway through the game or sub him out half-way through the game, either way he plays a half. Of course, you may have to bring on your sub at any time to cover an injury, leaving Greenwood to play four quarters. Equally, if he is the sub, he may have to come on in the first ten minutes and play all day for that same reason. In short: if you are going to play someone for half a game, it really doesn't matter whether he starts on the ground or in the vest. |
Danger of trying to manage the playing time of a NQR player via the the sub interchange is the unexpected injury. |

Didn't Greenwood get 18 disposals in a qtr in his VFL return game? If so, why not make him the sub? None of the other sub candidates are capable of those numbers.
Also, Greenwood isn't coming off a soft tissue injury, we don't have to be overly cautious with him. |
True, but there are soft tissues around his ankle & he needs to get match fitness / match hardened for more that 3/4's of a game. |
I'm sure all the guys who need work will get it over the weekend. |
Just structure it in among the players mandated 4 days off you reckon... |

Love to see Marsh debut and there's a certain romance to him doing it at home in Perth. You could make a case for Abbott as well on the back of 6 goals making it 2x WA boys debuting at home.
Sadly, can't see it happening. Expect minimal changes to a winning side and likely Blair in, Seedsman out. |

Watching the GWS game again, Seedsman was better than I had thought on first sight, although not much. But he looked to me like a player on the cusp of regaining his form. I'm inclined to leave him in. For mine, no change. Realistically, they will put Blair back in, so I imagine they will take out Kennedy because he is always the loser at the selection table. I have no idea why. Or possibly De Goey will be omitted on account of his hand injury. If Kennedy is the sub again I'll change my name to Jack Spain and start supporting Hawthorn. _________________ Let's eat Grandma. Commas save lives! |

I don't think Abbott can play as he's a rookie and we have already promoted Frost. Unless there's another longterm injury, I suspect Abbott will have to wait until next year to play senior footy. Personally I can't wait, as i see him as the new 'raging bull' for the Pies. |
