And a footnote
Ed says I am going to ring Aquila and get those shoes.
I want you to keep that money.

Good on the great man, he often gives contestants a hand, some choose not to take it though.

A beautifull act and I hope the genuine act does not get lost in
controversy.

Yes well done, but he is still a Toorak boy.
Rich people giving poor people a small sniff
doesn't cut it with me.
Yes, and then there is the Broadmeadows past
that he plays up.
What is the best thing about Broady?
Answer: getting out of it!
Eddie knows this very well!

Aquila will spend say 4 K and get 20 times that in free publicity. The youung teacher can use it to maybe pay some pressing debts or go on a nice holiday and Channel 9 get plenty of good publicity. The kids get a pair of shoes and the parents get some sort of financial relief, albeit small. There are no losers here.

Thomsoc, You ever think what Eds parents had to give up to buy shoes for the kids. Ed may remember when Dad put off taking Mum to the pictures, or buying her a new vacuum cleaner. You have a black heart,

It is Thompsoc not Thomsoc!
But that doesn't matter much.
A black heart! That is a pathetic comment.
The rich are so generous. They give peanuts to the plebs and
that eases their guilt.
It is not about losers - it is about equality!!!
The question is:
Why can't the parents afford proper shoes?
Answer: The world is fu...ked and it is not getting any better!

Thommo don't try and kid a kidder - NOTHING is about equality.

That's just human nature old son.

It may be wrong or it may be right but it certainly IS . . .

And no amount of wishful thinking or placard waving is going to change it for one second.

Fair point.
But the reverse is true.
Patting rich people on the back for a small gesture doesn't change anything.

Certainly agree there thommo, but just quietly some of the meanest penny pinching pr1cks I've ever met have been ordinary wage earners.

Arrogance and belief in self superiority permeates all levels of human society and all nations.

There are many who will stretch out a hand to give a mate a lift up but just as many will walk right past him whilst he's in the gutter.

Anyway - back on topic - the only thing I care about regarding Eddie is how good a job he is doing with our club . . . and IMHO he bleeds black and white and would walk through hell with a handbucket to get us a flag.

It's a nice gesture, but it is easy to be generous with money that belongs to someone else. None of it comes from Eddie's own pocket.

Some people see being working class as something to be proud of. Others see it as something to escape. I guess the latter are those aspirational Australians I keep hearing about.

Dangles I was born working class - and poor working class at that. I was the youngest child of 11.

I certainly bettered myself and moved up in the world but it certainly wasn't a case of 'escaping' - or 'arriving'. I was simply trying to get a better life and succeeded.

The old 'class' distinctions are a thing of the past and irrelevant now IMHO.

Everyone gets born and eventually they die.

What happens in between is just an interlude and its up to everyone, no matter what 'class' they were born into to make the most of what they have been given.

When I give to the poor they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food or why they suffer without affordable housing, they call me a communist.

Think about it!
