It appears one of the most highly rated assistant coaches is about to commit coaching suicide.
Yes Brendan Bolton is about to be announced as Carlscum's new head coach.
Reported being ratified Monday night at board meeting to be announced Tuesday to media
Jon Barker may have just dodged a bullet
I would like to wish Bolton well but I just have it in me to wish anyone involved at the scum anything bar heartache and seasons of losses.

I thought Bolton might get the crows job which would have been a peach for him decent list, players with there best in front of them and play a decent style of game.
Who's favourite for the crows now ?

Bolton seems like a nice enough bloke. I wonder how long his smiley face will last? :p

Carlton have gone for a tested assistant and not a messiah or favourite son? Shit, they may just start making a comeback.

Ok here's a new one for me.
Carlton aren't contracting Bolton they are hiring him as a club employee and any other assistants or line coaches.
This means he doesn't get a fixed term as coach could be anywhere from 1 week to 33yrs. He does get a payout if he is dismissed as coach but it would only be a set amount not a full payout of remaining contract.
Sounds like the scum are financially embarrassed and can't afford to be paying any more coaches to sit at home.

What we need here is for bat or jezz to download posts about Bolts from TalkingCarlton to excel. And the posts when Malthouse was appointed. And when Ratten was appointed. And do a vlookup comparing all the posters there who truly felt confident that they had FINALLY turned a corner and all would be rosy from now on.

I can tell you now it's all deja vu. Those poor bastards find a great white hope at every turn that only disappoints. For the first time though I feel sorry for one of them. Brendon Bolton seems like a good bloke.

No doubt they will ruin that man.

It will be interesting to see if Bolton can emulate former hawks assistants Simpson and Beveridge.

He never played at AFL level so that's a point of difference all ready.

Not my type of preferred coaching personality but that could change quickly with the stress of a senior job.

P.S-Cant recall.

Did Neeld play at VFL/AFL level?

Yes Neeld played for Geelong and Richmond between the years of 1990 to 1996.

See Jezza's post above. Otherwise, I think there have only been a couple of other coaches who haven't played VFL/AFL – I think Freo's first coach, Gerard Neesham, was one, and I think Brendan McCartney at the Western Bulldogs might have been another.

Neesham had a few games at Sydney, but Wayne Brittain coached the scum with no afl/vfl experience and was not given a fair go, expect a bit of de ja vu.
