.....and you tell that to the young ones of today & they won't believe you.

Mind you radio is always the best way of watching the footy & if "we" win we have MB the next day to look forward to.

Yep, a disgrace, not sure how it promotes the game making it only available to those people who have pay TV. Most of them have pay TV for a reason, they're already sports nuts! Not even a replay later in the week on F2A. And it doesn't seem that long ago that our federal pollies were telling us that pay TV would not result in a dilution of F2A coverage.... yeah, right!

I can kinda understand it IF they had only one major channel to play it on, however with a choice of THREE channels, there is no fair dinkum excuse. Rolling Eyes

really? they're just practice matches. when was the last time a practice match was on fta? can't dilute nothing any further.

i think it is a bonus that foxtel are bothering to cover them. that said, it is a selling point for the paytv package similar to how membership gets you free access to them.

Was planning on going but the weather forecast is 39 with showers. Hmm.. Don't know if I feel like sitting in a fold up chair in that for 4 hours. Hoping the forecast changes.

Yes, they've been downgraded to glorified praccy games but it is still run as a competition and we previously had F2A coverage of the pre-season comp. AFL wants to promote the game yet they're denying an enormous percentage of the population access.

still run as a competition? how so? they got rid of the competitive element. that's why it's the nab challenge. i don't see any points table.

the afl is promoting the game by taking it to the regional areas. those that are yearning to see the games on tv are already converts.

So a draw where 9 teams play the other 9 teams over 3 rounds, shuffling the opponents at each round, doesn't constitute a competition? But then again, I'm just a simple country lad....

simple country lad you are then. each club has a different agenda during the preseason; each club can prepare with some semblance of opposition rather than endless intraclub sessions. this timely article sums it up:

Temperature predicted of 39 degrees - will certainly impact the wellbeing of players and playing conditions - even though it is a late start.
