Quote:
ETIHAD Stadium would be bulldozed and a new $1 billion footy stadium built next door to the MCG under a radical plan pushed by Collingwood president Eddie McGuire.

“Victoria Stadium” would boast a retractable roof and a capacity of up to 60,000.

The preferred site is at Hisense Arena, which would be relocated above the railway lines.

Key stakeholders including Premier Daniel Andrews have been briefed on McGuire’s proposal to revamp the Olympic Park precinct.

“The talks are serious — and it gives us an opportunity to decide what the next plan is for our city,” McGuire said.

So what you think of Eddie's Idea of putting a 2nd AFL Ground next to the Holden Center?

They should put a roof on the G and then (wait for it) build another stadium on top of the G, and maybe even put a roof on that too.

Double decker stadium, hmm, I like it. Very Happy

Seriously Ed, leave the area alone, it's already one of, if not the best sporting precinct on earth, no need to jam another stadium in there.

Find somewhere else for it.

Never been a fan of Ethiad --the stadium was built where it is as part of the
Melbourne grand plan to open up what was considered a wasted area and
create a new suburb.

Personaly I would not saturate my pillow with tears if it went but as some one said do we clutter up the best sports district on the planet

The best thing about Etihad is it's easy to get to with Southern Cross station right there.

The so called sporting precinct is a bitch unless you live south or east of the CBD. Put another stadium in there and they better do a massive upgrade of Jolimont Station for a start.

I agree they might have put it next to SC Station but didn't design it very smartly. Try funneling 30,000 through a gap not much bigger than the width of the goal/point posts.

Even worse now with buildings going up around the place.

No doubt Ed has Collingwood in mind with this stadium but I don't see a need for it or a justification for the cost it would take.

It would need to be in conjunction with a total rebuild of Richmond station. That station is the most overdue capital works project in Victoria. If they did that properly it could work.

Sounds like a lot of time and money, just to replace one medium sized stadium with another.Surely there's better things for the government to spend money on,like schools and hospitals?

I have an idea lets invest in smaller stadiums like Vic Park, Arden Street, Windy Hill, Princess Park, Glenferrie Oval and play at those. make them 30000 seat stadiums and members only.
