Actually quite happy with this side. Did not think we should play Ben Reid unless he had green lights across the board. I am happy with the selection of Witts and Gault. This is an aggressive selection. Witts is great in the centre, and this is what we need against a rather weak Swans ruck configuration. Gault playing up forward is exciting. Love our forward line.
My only question is: McAffer or Aish? Not sure that the difference is significant. Happy with the team.

Sydney midfield is a real physical outfit They may have some young blokes in there but are still a tough unit. Must be a question of match ups. The Caff can play a variety of positions foward, defensive forward, tagger, and midfielder. It's a long season Aish will get his chance.

I don't mind the side based on preseason form. Only critique is that I'd like to see Oxley in the back line for some better exiting kicking. Our back line has some shakey kicks on exits.

However, small ground means a much more contested footy rather than a free flowing outside game. So the hard nuts picked should be suited.

I think Ramsay is a good kick. Also Maynard kicks well, it is just his decision making that needs to improve. Yes, Sinclair can struggle at times but has improved a lot. Williams is probably the worst one. Langdon is ok. But was poor in the NAB Cup. Frost is just ok as is Brown.

The good thing is that there is a lot more competition for spots than last year.

Stinkers must have the best photos - keeps Ben Reid out of the side.

Just saw the pigman umpire schmidt-for-brains is officiating, this game will be difficult to beat 23 swans players!

Unfortunately, Blair deserves his place in the side.
He really has played well in the practice matches with his midfield effort being excellent.
If his form drops off I will be the first to bark.

But Toovey's absence is evidence that a changing of the guard is taking place.

Reid hasn't had any match practice to speak of.
Sinclair's pace, marking & toughness are positives. His disposal efficiency is actually quite good despite some obvious howlers in the past.

Ben Johnston made some howlers when he first started out with his kicking but became one of the safest & most damaging kicks by the time he finished. He was invariably tarred from his early less than polished kicks.

We need his pace to break the lines. He can put fear into the opposition but he can also put fear into his own team supporters simultaneously Wink

I'm more concerned about their talls: Callum Sinclair is a fine ruck & smashed us at Etihad last year with the Weagles. Buddy invariably plays well against us as does the former Adelaide tall forward. They also picked up Talia from Footscray, a fine young defender.

We need to relentlessly attack & convert our opportunities.

Oxley provides the marking ability that Ramsey doesn't quite have although I'm not sure they're competing for the same spots.

i suspect sinkers only needs to make sure the ball moves forward, gaining metres by breaking the lines and with run & carry.

All I know is that I don't want any excuses rolled out tomorrow re:the drug scandal should we lose.

As for the team named I said previously I couldn't see how Reid could be considered given his lack of NAB appearances and so it is.

On Blair, yep deserves his place for round 1 but has a history of starting a season well before fading. Last year was probably the best example of this to date.

He along with a handful of others will have there work cut out holding there place this season but that is a positive thing.
