23 players went through a light session on the SCG.
All looked sharp. Very good atmosphere with a bit of fun had in most drills. Players looked relaxed, comfortable and all were engaged.
Peter More watched on with his wife. Great to see the legend.

Langdon was taken aside by hart and seemed to be run through a fittnes test. Wasn't particularly difficult but was a unique session just for him. I'd suggest they will look at how he pulls up tomorrow. If so would b the reason oxley is the 23rd man.

Just back from SCG training. Sloppy early but they picked up and looked slick and switched on. Brief 45 min session and autograph signings afterwards. De Goey is an absolute beast, Treloar and Adams said they were excited about playing for the Pies. Trav looked the fittest I've seen him.

I think we'll win by 3-5 goals.

Like the named team and only see one shock: no Toovey? Very surprising and does not bode well for his season.

And one surprise: Gault over Grundy. This one won't last, Grundy is too good not to play and Gault is unproven and I think unlikely to become a fixture.

It is an inexperienced defense and I hope we see more maturity and less mistakes from Maynard than last year. Though inexperienced I do see Ramsay as dependable (along with Sinclair, Brown, Langdon and to a lesser degree Williams) so we shouldn't have a problem, but there's clearly no way we could have fit both Marsh and Maynard into the team, too much of a risk.

Good to see that toovey is no longer automatic selection.

Grundy might be too good not to play, but it's not Gault he's competing against. Gault is taking white's spot, as ruck relief / tall forward. Unless Grundy or Witts can show themselves to be dangerous in the forward line, and we've probably seen enough by now to know that that is not going to happen, then Grundy is up against Witts for selection. line ball for me - Witts is better in the ruck and a better mark, Grundy is better around the ground / competitor. I assume SA clubs will be looking at Grundy if he doesn't get much of a go this year.

^^Yeah should have said Gault or Witts. Sometimes we'll play one genuine ruck, sometimes two. For this game I expected that Witts had earned a spot, then it was between Gault and Grundy as the other tall. I don't see, or don't want to see, Gualt, Witts, Grundy, Cloke and Moore all playing together. Too top heavy.

given the smaller dimensions of the scg we don't need two rucks. mcg might be a different matter.

Maynard is lucky as he did nothing in the Pre-Season to demand Selection

Time for Witts to step up & continue his progress.

Needs too stamp some authority & use some controlled aggression on Tippett - get angry & give our on ballers & first & direct use of the pill.
