can anyone comment our respective development/drafts over the last 5 years or so?
I know we beat them in a final in 2010 and they went swiftly downhill while we hung on and have tapered away? Are they seeing results now because of a group of youngsters who have had an extra year or two together where a lot of our players haven't played much vfl together let alone senior games?

in response to this, i have compiled a table of the draft picks from 2010 to 2015 for clubs that we are theoretically competing with. i have excluded carlton, essendon and geelong but added in wce for a comparison of a team that rose quickly to reach a grand final.

we've traded out of the draft for ready-made players consistent with what our list profile needed or we have had to trade in to get high draft picks. we've not bottomed out to get the picks.

mitch wallis and tom liberatore were relative steals considering we gave up pick 9 for darcy.

The last great draft pick by Hine was Beams at about pick 29 in 2008.
Since then he has not drafted one recognised A grader.
Obviously, some of the later picks like Moore may become one.
This fly's in the face of the many numerous Nicksters who think the man is a genius.
Another issue with the above table is that it doesn't include rookies and traded players.
The guy is a reasonable recruiter but so far can' t be given the title of genius.

Nice work u can add Jason Johannisen to 2010 for dogs too from the rookie draft.

Verry good running back.

feel free to contribute meaningfully by adding in the rookies and traded players. this is simply the top draft picks and who the clubs took generally at the top end of the draft.

Thanks JW. Interesting.
Appears some of the doggies guns have been in the system for quite some time. Then you look at our team yesterday and we had three players from the 2014 draft with less than season of games each under their belt. Add in Goodyear and you can see our inexperience.
The disappointing thing though is that it appears the Saints are not too different to us.

Oh Hal, thanks very much, but I'm not into human-cyborg relations.

2013 has torpedoed us thus far. Thank goodness for Langdon. Sicily for Hawks drafted that year at #56.

I don't think that should be the criteria for judging a recruiter's ability. With a number of high draft picks I'm sure I could get an A-grader.

The ability to find a hidden gem, diamond in the rough, etc, etc, from the list available at the time your pick comes around is far more critical I would think.

Getting an A grader in Beams was good from pick 29
So what hidden Gems has Hine unearthed in the last 8 years?
Not many!!!!
His last great year was 2006.
It was this draft coupled with the recruiting of Sidey, Beams, Thomas and Pendles but 3 out of these were top 10 draft picks, plus the one third of flag players recruited by Judkins that gave us the cup in 2010.
He has not unearthed one so called A grader in the last 10 years from any pick below a round 1.
It is a myth that he is great in this area.
I have banged on about this for the last 4 or so years and nothing has changed in every new draft.

Apart from Moore, I don't recall us recruiting any classy, credentialed key forwards or key backs.
