I read this morning that all the cases in the UK are men who had sex with men. It's not a sexually transmitted disease, it's a virus that requires close contact for extended period of time. Like doing the horizontal rumba with someone, but for more than 3 minutes.
So it's not a gay man disease, they just happen to be the small sample size getting it. At the moment.

The article I read was very pointedly careful not to use the term "Gay men", instead referring to them as "Men who have sex with men"

Yeah not good enough, the correct terminology is Cisgender male identifying as a male, having meaningful, or maybe not meaningful sexual relations with another cisgender male.

You’ve got the wrong end of the stick here – as I think Stui is suggesting, the reason the terminology "men who have sex with men" is used is to refer to gay or bi men who are sexually active (as opposed to celibate), which is obviously important to clarify for certain contexts. It’s the same term that’s been used historically to bar sexually active gay men from donating blood, for instance. Nothing to do with political correctness.
As for "cisgender", which you seem to have an issue with as a term, it just means someone who isn’t transgender. Same as heterosexual means straight. It’s no more mysterious than that.
