It was actually one of the most insane and impressive things I've seen in world sports. Rafa, what a guy.

Rafa with Olympic gold in Singles and Doubles too. Has lost 8 GS Finals, it's a shame he didnt win a couple of those close AO finals in the past. But last night was one of the best we'll ever see.

I hope he can win the French too.

I'm still on the Djokovic bandwagon and hope he fights back, but what Rafa's achieved is unbelievable.

I think the GOAT will either be Nadal or Djokovic now. Federer will be #3.

Nadal also achieved the double career slam.

This has been achieved by Emerson, Laver and Djokovic.

Novak still number 1 after all of this.

Good for Rafa but he did not play Novak in the final to win it.

Rafa has 1 more year left Novak has 2.

By 2024 Novak 23 grand slams to Rafa 22.

Rafa's greatest triumph. Not his best tennis by a long way, but his greatest performance.

I certainly do not equate "greatest" with "most Grand Slam titles".

Good cases can be made for players with half the number of Grand Slams.

There's a modern obsession with raw numbers like that.

Slams are a significant metric, but not the only metric.

I think the two obvious ones outside the big 3 would be Laver and Borg.

Some of the metrics to consider would be:

[*] Overall number of Slams won.
[*] Number of Semis, Finals and Titles at slam level.
[*] Number of Titles won (Slams, Masters 1000, Year End Titles, Olympics etc.)
[*] Head to head records (slams being given the most emphasis, but overall as well).
[*] Head to head on each playing surface.
[*] Has the calendar grand slam been achieved? Non-calendar grand slam?
[*] Has the career slam been achieved? Double career slam?
[*] Weeks at being #1 in the rankings.
[*] Level of competition.
[*] Number of years ending at #1 for the calendar year.
[*] Performances on hard, clay and grass courts.
