Some people need to take w chill pill it's round 1 after all
Look at the facts
We had enough chances to win the game but squandered them badly
We missed Adams and his clearance skills
WHE always pops up for a goal or 2 and balances our forward line
JDG was clearly under done likewise Howe
Our cohesion was way off for whatever reason
We were never going to be at our best in round 1
Add Adams WHE Scharenberg and possibly Dunn to that side and see the difference
Phillips and Langdon didn't have a completed pass over 20m between them all night and combined for absolutely zero positives and Howe was equally as bad by foot
Then have a look at how the other sides who played finals last year faired
Going deep in September has its disadvantages your behind in terms of full fitness starting the season due to a late start back at training and lighter workloads
We had a some what injury prone preseason with quite a few players noticeably behind where they were at seasons end 2018
We started last season 0-2 and slowly built into the season
On the positive side Elliott Moore and Beams added heaps to this side already
Treloar got plenty of it but didn't use it well enough to really impact but that will come in time he's way off his best fitness
Sidey Pendles Stephenson Maynard all looked decent

Everyone just chill and let's see where we are at round 6 when we should hopefully have a full team running around and our players are closer to full match fitness

A media bod I heard say round 1 “a tipsters nightmare “—-exactamondo

Clubs will derive nothing, especially tactical from opening stanza

What were we like at this stage. Wofull but three rounds in we started to grow

Thought Stevo was possibly not 100 % injury wise and ditto JDG

But that’s a not +. Plus,s were there in Billy and Darcy and Roughead

We will be fine

The media tells us the coach says Absent forwards no excuse for misfiring mids.

(Simpson on WC, that is...)

once again, im disappointed but proud, and the roller coaster keeps rolling,
cheers, i may see some of you on the high, some seem to come for the lows! cheers

Yep.... all of the above

That's a bit harsh mudlark. It was meant as a light-hearted comment, not a serious one. Perhaps I should've put one of these at the end of it. Wink

Our team was very rusty and have enormous scope for improvement, particularly when Adams and WHE return.

My only worry...as it was last year...is that our forward line is still very dependent on Cox playing well. I'm hoping he rediscovers his Prelim finals form, or at the very least, can reduce the massive gap between his good and bad performances. Looking at our list we don't seem to have anyone else capable of filling the tall key forward role.

It’s a fair call RB but ultimately a forwards fortunes are pretty much determined by the midfield. Cox will be no different.
Let’s get Adams back, have him shovel the ball out to space from the centre and then let the polish kick it to our ( tall ) forwards advantage.

Will Checkers repeat his 2018 form —may help forward line

An absolutely long long long shot is a fit (and not in /out the side ) stay fit
possible Ben Reid (I know he ain’t sparking lately)

Should be glaringly obvious by now that Adams is now our important player behind Grundy; both these blokes are our barometers.

Not likely to sight either Adams or WHE for a few weeks, so will interesting to see who volunteers their spots in the 22 with more showings of laziness and inept disposal standard, in the coming weeks.

Oh wow. What a win by the Lions!! I wonder if Beamsy is already regretting his move back to the Pies???

It doesn't really matter what he thinks about it. They won because he left. The win was based on gut-running, closing down space and not letting the Eagles have an easy ball anywhere. His lack of defensive of run would have ruined that game plan. Also, if he was still there, they wouldn't have been able to afford Neale.

They might also have won because WC were not playing their best football.

Our want to keep the ball in play with stupid flicks and tap backs rather than taking the boundary line throw in forward of centre or inside F50 beggars belief. Just dumb, smart arse football. Most of the time our player had no idea who was in support (usually a Cats player) and gifted Geelong an easy outlet rather than taking the throw in and resetting. Hubris personified.

Raw..... that is the Collingwood cake walk. Another one was picking up the ball then bawlking to avoid a head on tackler then only to get tackled from behind and be surprised it can happen.

Feeling lot better now, lots of upsets, dees, dons and eagles all got belted, badly, we lost a close one, Many upsets, rusty teams, we were not alone, im feeling much better now, much better. Next week we may not win, but will have a red hot crack at tigers, now minus rance. Bring it on.
