Exactly. A+ Cam for this post.

Well, that's a relief. I am running out of participation prizes to award Nicksters.

Brisbane say hi (today vs GCS).

Huh? Question

The discussion in the ladder-prediction thread contradicts that.

It looks like many here think the same... but maybe not the coach:

'He didn't kick a goal, won 11 possessions and had four hitouts spelling Brodie Grundy in the ruck, but Buckley was "encouraged" with what he saw.

"There are some good numbers there. Only a couple of times the ball was marked off our kicks in our forward 50, and that's not the be-all and end-all, but that's part of it," Buckley told reporters.

"We had 18 forward-50 tackles, so the balance was OK. We didn't quite hit the scoreboard as much as we would have liked, but well enough, efficiently enough.

"We butchered some chances early, but I was encouraged enough by that, with 'Roughy', and we'll use that as a learning tool and work out whether that's the best mix.

"We know that he' going to be very good for us behind the ball if required, but we also think it's pretty important to have a couple of tall targets up front to structure up our forward line."'

Brisbane also took their foot off the accelerator in the last quarter

Fair dinkum, you blokes are like ex-wives, you hear what you want to hear.

Also, when was the last time Brisbane went to the finals... they don't have much idea about when to peak. Perhaps as well, maybe the Suns didn't show up. If they eased up in the last then...

Roughy forward also took May away from Checkers for periods of time. Rough didn't do much but he helped with our structure in the forward line. Think I might have preferred Madgen and he swapping though.

AND didn't we smash the Lions, up at the Gabba, earlier in the season, by bout 8 goals when we had most of our guys fit and playing. ?? How quickly they forget, the fickle fans. Surprised

It was Gold Coast. Enough said.

Some of our players switched off, thinking about tomorrow’s recovery session, no need to go too hard. We travel to Adelaide next week. I would have loved to see us win by 100 points — but a bit of preservation for finals would always be tempting. Lions vs Suns was more free flowing too, GC allowed the Lions to play fast and free. Whereas the Dees flooded — there were 36 players on the ball for most of a quarter, like little league, hard to kick a high score in that type of play. When we were allowed to play free and fast like we love to do, we started kicking goals (second qtr). Then they flooded the ball and corridor again, and we went wide to compensate. Crap game results in low scores.

TBH, I don't like comparisons based on events that occurred much earlier in the season. I forgot where I read it just recently, but I love the comparison: a season is like a river, what it is now is never what it was in the past, even one millisecond ago, let alone more than half a season ago. Brisbane are clearly a different side now to when we played them. Having said that, we are also a different side to the one that was in such a dark slump 2 weeks ago. These two wins rebuild confidence, and are creating new synergies to take us forward in the last two HandA games. Our midfield is reknitting with added physical presence. We are developing forward structures. Bucks' comments regarding Roughie up forward indicated that we see the need for another tall target up forward, and aren't sold on a purely small forward line. Maybe Magden will be trialled up forward next week. He can take a grab, and today his disposal was good.

Brisbane game was played completely different to ours, theirs was a free flowing shootout in warmer weather. We didn’t get that luxury with 36 players on the ball on a miserable day and soggy ground. Dees flooded to avoid a flogging — Suns didn’t seem to give a ****.

Yet another example of when direct comparisons are flawed.

I like where our team is headed, as you say M2tM. We are getting more fluency in our play and slowly starting to build some momentum towards the important games.
