Collingwood

(In): L.Franklin,
(Out): T. Langdon, T. Phillips, B. Sier and Pick 33

That's a ridiculous amount to give up for an ageing Franklin who's on huge coin. It's arguably 1x first round pick (Langdon), 2x second round picks (Phillips & pick 33), 1x third round pick (Sier).

In terms of other clubs

Quote:
In: J. Daniher, T. Phillips, T. Langdon
Out: L. Franklin, Pick 23

Sydney wouldn't be able to sign the paperwork quick enough if the proposed trade was just Daniher for Franklin and pick 23 let alone adding Langdon and Phillips to the mix. Acquiring Daniher would cost the swans two first round picks, which is a heck of a lot more than Franklin and 23.

Quote:

Essendon
In: B. Sier, Pick 23
Out: J. Daniher

Wasn't sure if it was possible, but Essendon is getting screwed more than us. They could probably force our hand and acquire Sier for a third round pick, best case we'd get their second round pick. There's no way they let Daniher go so cheaply.

Check everybody's salary, it all fits.

1. Daniher has played 11/44 games in the past 2 seasons kicking 15.14
Franklin has played 29/44 kicking 84.61
Dont think that Daniher is worth 2 1st's
Essendon should be happy moving up in the draft, while gaining Sier ( A big need for them, they have no inside mids )
Sier has massive potential, dont-underrate him, not injury riddled like Daniher is and very young.
Sier was a pick 32 and has already been exposed to a GF!
In this case, Sier is much more important to Essendon than Daniher.

2. You must really rate Phillips, Langdon is no longer needed imo.
Sydney will only let Franklin go because they need to rebuild. Daniher becomes a project for them, while they need to replace some veterans
If they were not rebuilding I would expect them to knock us back to be honest.

3. Does everybody realise we are getting a Pick 3? chances are Melbourne don't select Noah Anderson leaving him for the pickings.

This follow up proves you're a plant, troll, ring-in or shit stirrer! Why?

1. "You" must really rate Phillips: if you were bona fide you'd say "we"
2. "Noah Anderson": shall go Pick 2 to the Gold Coast whom have essentially been guaranteed this priority pick so the Dees don't get pick 2

Bugger off!

Pay close attention!

1. (I) don't rate Phillips. AT ALL!!!!! Along with numerous others who voted in my poll...

2. Who cares? We get someone else with pick 3 or 4 or whatever it is

Now squirt off Sherlock

84 goals 61 points in 29 games these past 2 seasons.

In a Sydney team that is bottom of the leauge for forward 50 entry!!!!!!!

Far from a hack, still better than Cox and Checkers combined

Hes getting on mate, hes ageing and slowing down, too old now for us. Rolling Eyes

Isn't it a coincidence that all the Phillips fan boys love Langdon too...

Cant have Moore Shaz Howe Langdon Roughead all in the backline

Im starting to doubt your knowlege on the game.

Who is better, Moore or Langdon?

Without Langdon we had the 2nd or 1st best defence all year!!!!!!

Best you say????? I recall Adams and DeGoey being Collingwood best

Yes Langdon has a good mark and tremendous positioning, however he is not physical, too slow, and at times a poor decision maker.

BKF the issue with the plan starts with Langdon is busted and is rumoured to have been offered medical retirement already so no club will want him regardless of the price
Secondly Phillips isn’t as good as people think he gets away with a bit because of the remainder of the mids
Thirdly Franklin is a game by game option at best I doubt he will play on past next season anyways

The rest doesn’t matter as the deal falls apart at the beginning

The cost attached to Franklin is too high as he still has several years to go on his 10 year contract.

We would be better off converting Grundy into our own athletic full forward if we didn't want him to ruck.

That's why you trade player(s) which equal his contract value

How does that get around the salary cap? Do 2-min noodles come in brown paper bags?

Potentially it does from a salary perspective, Franklin's on 1.5 mil himself. While existing contracts may affect a players trade value it's far from the only consideration when determining value. Other aspects include age, injury, trending form and list needs.

Quote:

1. Daniher has played 11/44 games in the past 2 seasons kicking 15.14
Franklin has played 29/44 kicking 84.61

Sier was a pick 32 and has already been exposed to a GF!
In this case, Sier is much more important to Essendon than Daniher.

Undoubtably Daniher has been injury prone, however there's no doubting his talent. As an example he nearly won the game for Essendon on ANZAC day. Get him fit and he'll be a star of the comp.

Franklin turns 33 in January and will be 35 in the last year of his contract. Being tied to his initial restricted free agency contract means that contract is fixed. He averaged 0.5 less goals, 0.5 less behinds (or 1 less shot on goal combined) and 3.5 disposals per game in 2019. My main concern regarding Franklin though is his mobility understandably looks to be diminishing at a time where mobility as a forward is becoming more important. He's also never been that great overhead.

From a Collingwood scenario and under your proposed trade it's meaningless to us who's better. Langdon, Phillips, Sier and 33 is still way too much for Franklin, who I obviously don't rate nearly as highly as you at this twilight stage of his career.

Quote:

If they were not rebuilding I would expect them to knock us back to be honest.

I'm not a massive fan of Phillips, and he is one I consider tradable for the right deal. Even with questionable skills a 23 year old hard running winger who's had over 550 disposals the previous two seasons will hold value to opposition clubs. A pick in the 20s or 30s is very achievable.

Langdon I would have traded for the right deal at the end of 2018. His superb finals series would have been forefront in the minds of opposition clubs and as you say we have list coverage.

Quote:

3. Does everybody realise we are getting a Pick 3? chances are Melbourne don't select Noah Anderson leaving him for the pickings.

Pick 3 will become pick 4. By all reports Anderson won't last past pick 2.
