Wimbledon cancelled.

Reuters:

"Unlike the French Open which is played on clay, Wimbledon's scope for re-arranging the start date was extremely limited.

While centre court and court one boast a roof, playing elite level tennis outside on grass would have been extremely challenging in late summer or autumn with a lack of light and problems caused by dew forming on the surface late in the day.
...

Wimbledon has been held every year since 1946 after a six-year hiatus because the country was at war."

Thank goodness or that. It would have been a special kind of awful if the only sports running in the known universe were tennis and golf.

I know with my sport lawn bowls that's been totally cancelled all comps cancelled even minor club comps too along with practice bowls by myself and the 20/21 pennant club comp looks like it could be a much shorter season. Normally starts first weekend in October now looking like December/jan 2021 so half a season.

A lot of clubs agm's and presentation nights normally between april and June july have been postponed till end of the year.

Mass isolation of world’s best players among plans to keep T20 Cup dream alive

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/cricket/mass-isolation-of-world-s-best-players-among-plans-to-keep-t20-cup-dream-alive-20200406-p54hn0.html

"Australia is scheduled to host the men’s edition of the 20-overs championship for the first time from October 18 to November 15.
...

Already, Cricket Australia is seeking a $200 million line of credit from banks to cover itself in the event the four-Test series between Australia and India – worth $300m in revenue to the game here – falls victim to the coronavirus crisis.
...

According to sources with knowledge of the planning, they are taking medical advice on how they could get between 400 and 500 players, team staff and match officials from at least 15 countries here safely and without posing a wider health risk to the community. They have already discussed the concept of testing players for COVID-19 in their home countries in the lead-up to the World Cup before placing them into enforced quarantine.

It shapes as an enormous logistical exercise and one that would need approval at federal government level."

State of origin 2020 seams to have been given the green light from NSW government all 3 matches to be played at Parramatta New Bank West Stadium in Sydney NSW. Looking like it could be October as likely time to play or even as early as August. It all depends on if crowds are allowed.in turn this hinges on the covid 19 situation too.

Virus expert remains 'pessimistic' over Tokyo hosting the Olympic Games in 2021

https://edition.cnn.com/2020/04/20/sport/tokyo-olympics-2021-medical-expert-vaccine-spt-intl/index.html

'Kentaro Iwata says that even if Japan can get the outbreak under control in time, there is no guarantee that other competing countries will be in a similar position.
...

Iwata criticized the Japanese government for not acting quickly or efficiently enough to the initial outbreak in the country.

"Japan's government was so slow and so late in coping with the change of the situation which apparently is happening," he said.

"The most effective way of stopping the further transmission is a so-called lockdown, particularly in the Tokyo area."'

Both the US open and French Open tennis comps still going ahead as they are listed on google. But event organisers in talks though as to cancel them. I feel they will and the next slam will be the 2021 Aust Open and even that could be impacted too.
With the cricket its not looking too good for the t 20 world cup either and India is looking unlikely on the test series either.
A lot to consider.

Twenty 20 World Cup could be pushed back until next February

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/cricket/twenty20-world-cup-could-be-pushed-back-until-next-february-20200422-p54maw.html

Also this:

"Sources close to the board say directors believe Roberts did not manage the standing down of staff as well as he could have.
...

Players are reluctant to take further cuts as their pay deal with CA is tied to revenue, therefore their wages fall when the game is struggling.

There is still lingering tension between the players and Roberts, who was a central figure in the bitter pay dispute of 2017."
