Clock ticks for board Magpies fans as AFL backs canned noise
https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/clock-ticks-for-board-magpies-fans-as-afl-backs-canned-noise-20200529-p54xjz.html
"Collingwood members have until midnight on Sunday to lodge their bids to have their cardboard cut-outs placed at home matches...
Collingwood and the Western Bulldogs are two clubs keen to reward the loyalty of club members by having up to 1000 have cardboard cut-outs of themselves at home games.
Magpie members have until midnight on Sunday upload their photographs to the club, with the winners to be chosen at random. However, those in Magpie gear and who can provide high quality pictures that can be reprinted are likely to have a better chance of success.
A Magpies spokesman said the cut-outs would be placed behind the goals. The Pies are initially planning to do this only for their round-two clash against Richmond at the MCG on Thursday week but could extend the plan to other home matches in Melbourne should it be a success. Club sponsor La Trobe Financial will cover the costs of printing." |

I am a 21 year social club member which also provides 5 GA games.
I haven't asked for a refund however. I am an essential worker, and didn't lose my job.
The Giants membership (I do this for Canberra games) had 3 premium reserve seat games and I would like the Giants to sort something out there for me. _________________ Social club member 7342 since 2000.

If you are letting the club retain 50% of your membership, surely that covers the membership pack. So why is there an "admin fee"? |

I am going to fill out the form for a full refund today for both of our Legend's Memberships.
If the season is on next year with crowds, we are on board as we would normally be.
If they don't want us or our money and cancel our memberships based on this purely financial decision, then that is their problem and their loss. _________________ HANDS OFF OUR JUMPER

So on the radio news the ATO was saying that AFL clubs are giving members incorrect advice. You cannot claim any membership money you donate as a tax deduction when you get a benefit from it like a reserved seat the following year.

^ donations don't come with a benefit. If there's a benefit received, then it can't be a donation. _________________ Fighting against the objectification of woman. |

Oh dear. |
I’m a chartered accountant. I can confirm the clubs are giving incorrect advice. The memberships are not tax deductible and the clubs are not registered deductible gift recipients. I cannot believe they are giving this advice on the website. |
