I always liked Rupert Betheras as player who gave 100% on the field and mostly played well above his skill level. I knew that he was a pretty good artist and that art had been his main activity after his AFL career ended. But this article from the April edition of The Monthly shows what an extraordinary human being Rupert is. It also tells you a lot about Indigenous art and the town of Tennant Creek.

I met Rupe at last year's Long Walk lunch, a very quiet humble generous man. So passionate about his art and supporting community. It was actually quite surprising that given his on field persona - hard tough team lifting player - that he was such a gentle man. He's got a number of Instagram accounts that displays his art - @rupertbetheras @rjb10101

Was a great player for a short period of time, but there were some questions about some of his off field behaviors, some of which may or may not have been truthful.

The club very quickly moved him on though, so who knows...

Well, Rupert said Mick moved him on because he didn't like footballers painting.

Did you like Scotland's 53 games for Collingwood or his 215 for Carlton?

Weather it be coaches or players the move from Colliingwood to Carlton has not worked out well these are the following fails:

Mick McGuane
Cameron Cloke
Heath Scotland
Mick Malthouse

But the pies had the best of them all im not complaing but the blues had them when they were at their worst. It wreaked their careers going to the blues.

I'm not sure Cameron Cloke had a "best" = although, I guess he was pretty good that night we pulverised Geelong at the 'G.

As for Scotland, he played over 200 games for Carlton and received 57 Brownlow votes over his 11 seasons at Carlton. Also, he never had a game at Collingwood in which he had more than 25 disposals (in the seniors, at least - he was pretty good in the Reserves some days, IIRC), whereas his top 10 games for most disposals were all with Carlton (including one game in which he had 41 disposals). His disposal average per game at Carlton was 24 and at Collingwood it was 12. Anyway, the horror of his Carlton career is laid out at the link below.

Are you saying that Peter McKenna’s move wasn’t a failure?
