So the lack of football has me watching a bunch of old match footage, and I’ve found myself watching a few matches from 1989. I noticed that in each game I watched, Hawks was a bloody good player. I looked up his wiki page and noted that he was our highest polling player in the 89 Brownlow, and runner up in the Copeland, only to spend the entire 1990 season in the reserves..?

Does anyone have some inside info into what happened there? Or was it simply the arrival of Francis an Russell that kept him out all year? Either way, on paper it’s teuly bizarre that he couldn’t even get a match after such a good 89 season.

PS. How underrated was Jamie Turner?? Such a solid player.

From memory Jamie Turner was named Jamie Turnover by his team mates.

Enter: Scott Russell & Tony Francis - Quick, agile, dynamic, enormously skilled

Exit: Paul Hawke - A good honest soldier but a bit one paced and laborious

Welcome: the 1990 premiership flag

PS He wasn't THAT far away - he was emergency for the grand final team

Another crazy non selection was Murray Wrensted whom I really rated as a gun recruit, albeit a bit on the slow side. Collingwood selecters have had me screaming and scratching my head on numerous occasions over the many years🥺😲🧐
