My understanding is that the relationship is mutually beneficial. |
Because the MCG is the biggest stadium in Australia and currently there is an expectation that AFL is played in front go 100,000 people.
Now that has changed. If we go through a season where 50,000 is the max attendance, then fans will become accustomed to watching TV at home. Fewer people will go to the football and the AFL will be able to shift its home from the MCG to Docklands and then rotate GFs between WA, Vic, NSW.
The National Game will be finally become real. |

So should Geelong also host the GF if they make it? That is one huge advantage when very few opposition players have ever had the experience of playing on their unusually narrow ground before. _________________ How would Siri know when to answer "Hey Siri" unless it is listening in to everything you say? |

No crowds and then transitioning to smaller crowds (with social distancing) will allow the game to transition to the made for TV sport and allow it to become a true Australia wide game.
And that will allow the GF to be played in another State which I think is the ultimate goal of the AFL. |
Thats all very well mate, but what about the poor bloody hot dog an doughnut vans outside the G post game, whats gonna happen to the taste of victory jam doughnuts post game. ?? _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

Their ultimate goal despite adding another 40 years to the contract just recently?
Despite some whinging from interstate, it will be 2058 at the earliest that the grand final is played outside Victoria.
As for no crowds affecting atmosphere, I enjoyed our round one game and Dave is right, umpiring was a lot better. |

Whinge whine FFS no money = no football
Footy on TV is better than no football
No crowds is better than no football
The alternative next year will be soccer broadcasts because AFL is dead _________________ Carlscum 120 years being cheating scum |

Of course they did, as the MCG is the only ground of its size in the country. The AFL was bent over a barrel by the MCC.
That may no longer the case. If COVID restrictions remain in place for another couple of years, the game will have transitioned beatifically to a made for TV sport. Like NFL where Stadiums only need to hold 50 thousand and the Super Bowl can be rotated across cities. |
