Exactly

Having said that, wouldn't be too hard to massively reduce expenditure. AFL commission and clubs have become bloated, expansion teams and competitions that cost a lot of money, player salaries are a function of total income - what else are they going to do anyway, play rugby, basketball or a-league?

^ Off topic, but just wanted to mention that Fox Footy featured Round 10 1998 in their "Players who kicked Bags" special recently. Sav was an unstoppable, man mountain that day. It was such a joy to watch a Pies player marking everything that came his way and kicking so truly for goal Smile

I'm starting to get excited at the prospect of football again and seeing our mighty Magpies.

Agree.

I actually like the reduction in coaching staff. So many roles, many of which seems more to do with giving ex-players a job after retirement and creating a need than actually fulfilling a need.

Watching 1/4 and 3/4 time huddle and seeing Buckley spend only a couple of minutes addressing the team after the line coaches and specialist coshes have all done their thing. It all got just too bloated.

I can recall the days of Bob Rose, Neil Mann, and Ron Richards on the bench, coaching staff, that was it, and i thiink one stats guy, Thats all they had back then, we didnt need bloody 24 guys on Laptops back then, analysing every kick, mark, play on, etc.

Bob gave the full address to the players, as did tom hafey after him, both of em got us into Grand Finals, footy has become far too bloated, technical, its good to see that maybe, just maybe, it can go back to some basics. Confused

Yeah right, we can go back to Tuesday and Thursday training, players working full time, pie nights, cigarette advertising, no night games, Saturday 2:10 games, smoking at the footy and everywhere else.
Yes siree the olden days were always better. BTW what was the depression like? 😉😜

Interesting takeaway from today's Vic Government’s easing of restrictions... Could we see crowds at #AFL games sooner than we think?!! (From June 22, indoor cinemas, concert venues, theatres, arenas and stadiums will be able to reopen and host up to 50 seated patrons.)

well genius, u may get a taste of another Great Depression with this virus, the economies of the world rooted, so be careful what u say > All im saying is that footy is still footy, it aint rocket science and so many guys on laptops behind the coach each on reallly good coin, is a waste of clubs finances, this is a whole new virus world n ow, and footy cant go on as it did with endless bottomless cash. Surprised

Can’t be bothered digging out the Beams thread. Can anyone confirm if he’s back training and if so a chance for round 2?

No, Beams isn't returning to the club.

His Collingwood career is over.
