Just put the cue in the rack dude.

Eh. I mean, he personally may be Satan incarnate, but I have no issue in general with geriatrics still having a love life. When my grandmother was in her late 80s / early 90s, she met a widower of the same age in the retirement village she was living in and seemingly developed a romantic relationship with him, and I think that's kind of lovely honestly. Wouldn't have had an issue if they'd made it formal, and I think the only people who were spooked by that prospect were my aunt and uncle, who were seemingly upset by the prospect of it affecting their inheritance payout. Put all the billionaires on a luxury island, and let them enjoy their love lives and even their material wealth ( 3 or 4 million dollars each) for the rest of their insignificant lives.
Confiscate the rest of their wealth, make it available to the population of the rest of the world, and immediately solve the issues of world poverty, as well as gathering the necessary resources and international collaboration to address the existential issue of climate change.
No brainer.
By the way, credit to James P. Cannon for this idea.

^ Not a bad idea! The only problem is that it's the billionaires who are making all the decisions about these things...

The other problem with it is it wouldn't work anyway.

The uber rich have their wealth tied up in assets and shares, not cash. Plus, if you confiscated all the wealth of the top 100 people and divied it up across the world population, each person might get $200 and then what?

The biggest threat to humanity is population. More people equal more food, more power, more emissions, more problems.

We need a few billion people less.

Not sure about the top 100, but according to this article the richest 1% have about $26 trillion between them out of a total world GDP of just under $100 trillion. So even if that only shook out to around $3200 for every person on Earth – which would actually go pretty far in many countries – I'd take that deal!

Maybe you would, I'd still think it short sighted. If you've liquidated all their assets, what happened to them? Does Amazon or Apple still exist? Who owns it now? The "people"?

I'm not being overly serious here, but if I was, I wouldn't be suggesting liquidating their assets, just taxing them much more aggressively.

The second part of the question is easier – yes to nationalising or breaking up those companies, absolutely! A world without Amazon would be a far better place.

As usual when it comes to these things, we're on opposite sides of the debate. Razz Laughing I don't mind Amazon, they could be made to loosen the reign on the 18th century work practices of some of the staff, but otherwise OK.

Now you can get rid of Apple though. Razz

Melbourne City Council wanting to charge more for parking larger vehicles, like SUVs?

The Greens are saying that they are looking at France which does the same in Paris.

Well, if you are going to follow France, nuclear power?

The sooner the Greens die, the better.

Seems they managed to stop most of the traffic in time, though a handful of cars did fall in. (Probably helped that it was 1am). The six people who died seem to have been construction workers.

Apparently it was an accident caused by a power failure on the boat.

cops did amazing, just 90 sec to stop the traffic, and the cop at one end was going to go and pick up the construction workers but the back up didnt arrive in time to park across the lanes.

2 pulled alive from the water, im assuming cars that fell in. thank christ it wasnt peak hour.
