A face shield without a mask is basically useless. It stops spatter from a sneeze or cough but doesn't prevent you inhaling anything. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

Face masks don’t stop you from inhaling stuff either, though. Only passing it on to others. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

Good to see the curfew lifted. Wouldn't surprise me if Andrews was advised the curfew was unlawful, so he lifted it before the Supreme Court heard the matter.

I take it you've been wearing a face shield, David? _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |

Yep, last 3-4 weeks. Definitely made this all a lot more bearable (and yeah, I know that they’re not as effective as masks. But they’re still better than nothing.) Along with just generally being uncomfortable, I found most masks tend to cause a fair bit of pain behind the ears after about 5-10 minutes. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

oh man there is an opening!!
do you wear glasses at all? tie to your glasses, or cut the loop and tie behind your head. Or hold at the end of the strings and stretch, not on the material bit they will come off, try a balaclava, although i find they get too hot after a while. _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

• Third Step (i.e. end of lockdown) brought forward by one week to 19 October
• Curfew lifted after tonight
• Primary schools go back week of 12 October
• Increased fine for illegal indoor gatherings (Now $5000 per person)
• 130,000 employees can return to work (not sure which industries)
• Exercise permitted within 5km of workplaces as well as home |
Third step is still reliant on the same numbers being met, doesn’t mean anything will change on the 19th if we have had 6 unknown cases or an average of 5.1 cases a day
Oh now he is saying face shields are no longer acceptable, thanks Dan, that’s great news for the deaf community |
actually it doesnt effect us deaf people, if you are talking to a deaf person you are allowed to lower your mask, and deaf people are exempt (not sure why on that bit). _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

I’ve tried a few things, but the only one that really worked was tying a shoelace through the ear loops so that it goes around the back of the head. Meant the mask slipped down sometimes, which was annoying, but at least no pain! _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |

yep thats what i meant, tie behind your head. if you hadnt cut your hair you could have hooked it over a ponytail! i do that with my balaclava! i have a pin head, they all fall off of me! _________________ You cant fix stupid, turns out you cant quarantine it either! |

Where did you get the face shield from, David? What brand is it? |

Belgium has a weird system of counting Covid deaths no-one else uses. Essentially, if you have terminal cancer, slit your wrists, and then get shot in the head and run over by a semi-trailer doing 100k, provided that they think you might have had a Covid virus somewhere in your system, they count it as a Covid death. |
Belgium reckons the rest of the world is cheating to avoid coming last in the COVID Olympics. |

That's why I searched and searched and found some masks that go behind the head rather than the ears, got some that tie and some that are elastic.
A lot harder to find and have to wait a while for delivery but a bit better. The ear loop ones really hurt my ears as they are bad enough with the hearing aids anyway so only wear them when it will be a quick 5 minute trip to the shops as cbf using the reusable and washing them for such a short use!
The local bakery I visit which still happily accepts cash! have always worn the face shields and makes communication so much easier. When I go to supermarkets I just say no to their questions, just guessing what they are asking! |

Thanks, David.
I remember reading a reader comment to a NYT article. To go grocery shopping, in the car he puts on his motorcycle helmet and gloves, then shops, and then disinfects the helmet and removes it when he returns to the car.
It seemed a pretty good idea at the time.

Isn't that Victoria's system as well? |
