We must have our wet weather "plan" what ever that is. Must go in short forward line.

Predict:

Ins:

DeGoey
Daicos

Out:

Kelly (inj)
Phillips (omitted)

Personally I'd drop Mason and go smaller and bring in another runner

Mason won’t be dropped due him dropping marks as part of the game plan to allow our small forwards ground balls to grab and convert 😎 At least one should be unmanned as Mason usually has two or three opposition boogies hanging off him. The other forwards need to lift in their crumbing efforts. If they do this well, Mason is safe to go for marks and it becomes a bonus if he actually holds one😄 It should be a win = win situation.

I am not sure why so many think Phillips was terrible on Friday. I thought he was OK. My changes would be:

In: JDG, Josh Daicos
Out: Will Kelly, Callum Brown

I agree. We now have Jaidyn Stephenson, Atu B, Josh Daicos, Billie and JDG as dangerous small forwards. To stop Cox from marking, they need to deploy an extra defender at all times. This must leave someone of the above free. Cox does not need to mark, he just needs to create a contest and bring the ball to ground. Also, there were a few frees paid against defenders blatantly holding Cox's arms on the weekend, so I think defenders will have to think twice about doing that. Also, they will have to be careful about trying to push him out of position, as a couple of those were penalised as well.

Ins: Sier, De Goey,
Outs: Kelly, Phillips

It will be a slog in the wet: may need Sier's strength over Phillips capacity to cover the ground- tough call for the selectors.

Geelong will be primed for this one- Selwood, Menegola and Dangerfield represent three strong on ballers- We will need Grundy's best to give us first use out of the middle.

De Goey should be cherry-ripe after a rest and, if he kicks straight, may be the difference.

These two sides will go deep into the finals- fascinating match-up on neutral turf.

If its wet then Cox can't play.
JDG and Daicos (if ok) have to come in.

Brown was terrible and needs to be dropped.
Sier and Appleby looked pretty good in the reserves highlights so maybe one of those two could come into the side also.

How come JDG is back in?
I thought he was out pending the investigation, no?

At any rate, a must win!

Are you serious? The investigation commenced 5 years ago. It he defends the prosecution now it won't be resolved for over another year.

He was only out because he had to leave the "bubble" to go to a police station, meaning that he had to then have 2 negative covid test results before he could rejoin the team.

Yep, this is my view too. I thought Callum was our most unproductive player against Hawks, as he just continually fumbled the ball.

Above all, if it's wet, I hope we can adapt to that asap. We took far too long to do that against Essendon. Forget about playing pretty football, if the ball is wet and greasy. Just thump it, knock it on, toe poke it, long kicks when possible ......anything to get it forward!
I would be horrified to see us again handballing it around in circles, waiting for a clear option to become available. They just aren't all that plentiful in wet conditions. Of course, all this needs to be accompanied by simply manic pressure on the opposition, which is a given in any conditions.

I believe our structures and patterns work pretty well in dry conditions, but we just need to play wet weather football when needed, otherwise the losses will mount up over the winter months.

Thursday 16 July. Expected rainfall in Perth: 15 to 30 mm. Need 'ground ballers' (and snorkels!) - going to be a battle of attrition! Bring in the Bear!

And Murphy for his clean ball handling and hardness
