Monday, 14 September. The Gabba. 7.10

Collingwood v. Gold Coast Suns.

B: Jack Crisp, Jordan Roughead, Jack Madgen
HB: Brayden Maynard, Darcy Moore, Isaac Quaynor
C: Tyler Brown, Adam Treloar, Josh Daicos
HF: Jamie Elliott, Brody Mihocek, Will Hoskin-Elliott
F: Josh Thomas, Mason Cox, Jordan De Goey
Foll: Brodie Grundy, Taylor Adams, Scott Pendlebury
Int: Callum Brown, John Noble, Levi Greenwood, Travis Varcoe

In: Jordan De Goey, Adam Treloar, Travis Varcoe

Out: Tom Phillips (hamstring), Jaidyn Stephenson, Max Lynch (omitted)

Emerg: Jaidyn Stephenson, Ben Reid, Rupert Wills, Mark Keane

Milestones:

Jack Crisp - 150 games

Josh Thomas - 100 games

The great Scott Pendlebury will play his 313th game, equaling the record of Tony Shaw.

Over his career, Scott has played in 189 wins, 3 draws and 120 losses. His 189 wins already have him third all-time on the list of players who have played in the most Collingwood victories, behind just Gordon Coventry (with a ridiculous 220 victories from 306 games) and Harry Collier (with a similarly startling 193 victories from 253 games).

Keep an eye on De Goey, who could put his hand up (Cool) to play in this match.

Sier and Treloar could also be a chance, but maybe one more week.

And with any luck, we will play like we really want to win the bloody game😡 Still disgusted with their own insipid effort last week☹️

Realistically if we can win an elimination final we will have done well considering where we're at, (Injuries and form). If we were firing on all cylinders I think we could make a decent run at a premiership with this group, but we simply don't have the time to turn it around now.
Even if we kicked two more goals on friday and made the top 4 our form is struggling.

We got to clean up the messy handball game and take it on . We need to rotate Daicos forward more if thomas, stevo and WHE arent performing. We know he put his head over it and can crumb better than the others.

This is our elimination final. If we can't beat Cold Toast then it's goodnight nurse.

I'd keep Daicos on the wing where he has been playing much better, compared to playing as a half forward last year. He can still float forward at times, but the space of the wing suits him.

Seriously, I'm not sure if Stephenson will escape being dropped after an insipid showing last week, but we desperately need him to provide some much needed spark.

I don't like being critical of players, especially young ones, but honestly I reckon the Brown brothers are a liability atm. Hopefully De Goey and Treloar are a chance to return.

Finally, I hope the 9 days break will provide the freshener upper desperately needed by Grundy, who has looked pretty exhausted carrying pretty much all of the ruck duties with insufficient breaks between games.

I also think that Mihocek is still properly recovering from his concussion, and every day's rest will do him the world of good.

The Pies should be fired up and will need to be. Pies by 36 points!

Looking forward to seeing a rested and refreshed Brody Grundy take on Jarrod Witts.

Congratulations to our wonderful skipper Scott Pendlebury. A true champion.

I'll keep saying it, even if no one agrees with me. Play the kids. Callum and Tyler Brown will come good. Bring Ruscoe back and try Rantall and Bianco, looking forward to next year. Never play Tom Phillips, Lynch, Reid, Varcoe, Wills, Sier and Broomhead again. We need smooth users of the football who don't make mistakes under pressure. There's nothing a coach can do about players who keep repeating the same mistakes except drop them and then delist them. Nothing to do with Buckley. We don't have the list to take us to the premiership unless all of our favoured 22 never suffer an injury and that's not going to happen. Winning against Gold Coast is important to us, but only in regard to taking us forward to next year.

Would be great to see Langdon in, as much as that may be a long shot!

I see Reid kicked a couple in the scratch match, would assume he will come right back in...not my call personally, but when fit, he seems to get picked

At the real risk of them being underdone, I would pick all of the players returning from injuries and pick the strongest team possible. Their goal should be to win every game left to play this season and go into the finals with all cylinders firing. Play frenetic footy and give it their best shot. Even if they fall short at least show us supporters that they gave their all in spite of the injury ridden season.

This is just plain dumb for 3 reasons
1. Our defence isn’t bad we are keeping sides to low scores and we have Howe waiting in the wings for a finals appearance. If our attack worked better we would hardly lose a game
2. Why would you select a player who’s been out injured for 15 months and hasn’t been able to complete longer than 25 minutes even in a match sim or scratch match ? His medical history is now set in stone he’s knee is shot
3. Bringing in any players with zero exposure to football at this time of year is madness unless you have no other options. We have loads of other options and to be honest most of them present better value to the team than Langdon. He’s a very ordinary kick and if you haven’t watched lately kicking needs to be at a premium the way today’s game is played. Our backline kicking is quite good you wouldn’t want a guy down there who’s career kicking eff over 20m is under 20%

What are the odds of an entirely new game plan being implemented at this time of the year? Quite remote I would think.

A Brisbane supporting mate mentioned to me straight after our last game that you wouldn't know whether any of our forwards could play or not given the shocking ball movement and delivery into the forward line. Fair point.
