Much better than 1 flag in their whole shelf life like the pathetically lousy Saints I suppose 😁🤓

2 flags since 1958, which equates to 2 flags in 62 yrs! That's a piss poor return for a club as big as ours with the resources at our disposal.

Our sliding door moment was 2018 GF, that was the one that we really, really should have snared, and we rue the fact we did not, IF, is a big word, how different things could have been.

We can win one every 20 years these days.
Tigers will be only two flags behind us if they win tonight.
Cats are closing the gap too, if they win.
Hawks have 13. All of them since we won our 13th in 1958.
I'm not superstitious or anything, but someone I do wonder. |
Well let's see if I can help:
1.2011 - Succession plan split the club in two - potentially cost us back to back
2.2012/13 - Bucks started to move on players that didn't fit his mould - Didak, Shaw, Thomas, Johnson, Tarrant - heart and soul of the team - took a while to recover if they ever have
3. Recruiting was crap - Mayne, Wells, Beams just a few examples. haven't included draftees cause these are always speculative
4. Retaining players that were clearly past it - Reid, Dunn, Wills, Appleby, Lynch, Varcoe amongst a few. There are others
5. Refusal to recruit talls
6. Coaching jobs for the boys - Harvey, Sanderson, Rocca etc
7. Medical team
8. Eddie - 20 years is far too long
There are obviously other reasons like unbelievably bad luck with injuries, but the above have proved pivotal. We have lost our mongrel, win at all cost attitude and if we don't rediscover it, we will make up the numbers. At present I see us where Richmond were 6 or 7 years ago. Around the mark but still way short.
They got themselves out of it with great recruiting and moving on past it players. We need to be as brutal.
You can all have a go at me now but that's how I see it. |
Far from it, care to stand for Club President?

Bucks would have got a richly deserved flag but it was not too be . Its hard to get a dynasty team like the Tigers , you need one helll of a lot of luck especially ion the injury front, Richmond always get players back for the Finals, always, Lets start learning from them. |
It has nothing to do with that free kick.
Let's compare. Richmond get in front last night and what do they do. Do they go conservative and try to save the game....NO?
When Menegola goals to bring the Cats back within 16 points with 7 minutes to go, what would Collingwood have done. We would have done conservative, tried to save the game and likely lose the game. Richmond didn't take their foot off the throat. They attacked and kicked the final two goals.
That's the difference and why we wont build a dynasty. |
I agree 1000%...as club supporters we have to stop this "we were robbed by the umpires" bull#$t "victim" excuse...
What about....
"hey Collingwood wtf happend after the first quater when we were up by what should have been a MATCH winning lead???" ...why did the players stop playing.
Because if they had had a "Richmond" attitude....that free kick not played to Maynard would have mattered zero..we would have been up by five goals....
when it comes to games that count we are just as weak as St.Kilda...we go to water...we have to accept this and own it to fix it and stop deflecting blame.
By blaming the umpires we take the "weak"easy route...we don't have to ask the hard questions and demand better.
Hate, Richmond yes...but geez you have to admire that attitude...Geelong come at us....we are going to take that game off you...and run you into the ground.
We have not had that attitude in a long long time...even 2010 we did our best to give up a grand final we had.

Yep, all our success was built in the early years of the VFL to be honest.
If it wasn't for the fact, we maintained a large support base over the decades, and our connections in the community etc, we would have gone the way of Fitzroy.

Still could happen, who knows what's around the corner in say 10,25.. 50 years time - we can never afford to not be strong...

Much better than one flag in their entire VFL/AFL life like St Kilda or other similar examples. Two sides to every story when discussing flag wins.
