Post subject: Ed & Bucks last nightReply with quote

Fascinating interviews from both...

Ed is now a cross between a hackneyed life coach and suburban philosopher. He knows he will be there until he dies, so he just does homilies and makes trite observations about the realities of AFL.

"You can't win them all"
"Plenty of endeavour"
"Good group of young men"
"Only one team gets to win it"
"This is what happens when you make the finals all the time"
(Just forget about those years when we didn't. I have.)

Next up was Bucks. He sure does love his boys. Such impressive young men. He has transitioned rather nicely into being a father figure/coach with none of the success. I remember when Malthouse did this, but had a few flags under his belt to show for it.

"Nothing left to give"
"I didn't notice anything during the week"
"That's not who we are" etc.

The fact is that 2018 was a case of "close enough" for this club. Making the finals is now good enough too. Good for the brand etc. Expect more of the same for the next decade. Topping up each year to get close enough to the top sides. Long term planning is out the window in the vain hope we can pinch a flag.

"We believe our best is good enough to beat anyone"
Yep, that's all 18 clubs by and large.

Ed's mates in the media will keep reinforcing the message that "Collingwood are a quality side" despite all evidence to the contrary.

Expect more of this for another decade or so. Might pinch a flag. Might not. Doesn't matter. The die hard Eddie fans will keep punting up the cash every year. "Best president in the AFL etc."

This is what mediocrity looks and sounds like.

That loss last night was as comprehensive as it gets. None of the players will forget it. It will scar them for life. When that happened in the 1984 PF it ushered in big changes at the CFC. Not this time. Not with the apathetic membership we have now.

Collingwood is not the club I started barracking for as a kid 40 years ago. It is a hollowed out shell that reflects the times we live in. I've met Ed many times now and although I don't agree with everything he does and says (a lot of it tbh) I do quite like him. But he has gotten soft. He has been there too long. He has no plan for succession at all.

I feel sorry for Bucks. Cursed by that bloody Pratt cup really, but now, too comfortable, too soft. Once you start talking about how much you love your boys you are done as a coach. It's a ruthless game like that. Not so at Collingwood.

It's like a glorified boarding school!

This is one mighty cul de sac we have ended up in. Going nowhere, with no ability to make radical change.

Enough said.

They were shell shocked. I would have been lost for words too, how the heck do you explain last nights performance without a chance to go away and compose yourself first?

Say nothing maybe.

Looked pretty composed to me. Bucks spoke for nearly 20 minutes. You couldn't shut him up.

Ed can talk under water. He knows exactly what is going on. He runs the club.

Who are these mythical beings in the media who think we’re the bees knees? Because all I see and hear is the opposite.

We are a quality side. Start of the season with no covid we proved that. We proved it in Perth. Geelong lost the previous week and people said they’re on the wane — flog is and they’re flag favourites again. Dude, media have no idea, they’re bandwagoneers

I listened to Eddie a few weeks ago on radio.
He talked about one day at Richmond train station when he was a kid some opposition supporters took his collingwood beanie and threw it on the tracks.
A few collingwood supporters stepped in to help him.
This is the club he wanted to belong to when the fans stood up for each other he stated.
He talked about the broadmeadows days. But the reality is he lives in Toorak.
He doesn't associate with normal blokes or gals. He doesn't stand in the outer
The holden centre is a corporate centre not a social club. This is his legacy.
People like me want to see change.
In the last 60 years we have probably made the finals 45 times and won 2 flags.
There is something crook there.
I have always blamed it on the mates syndrome.
The mates club.
Ed talks as much as donald trump.
He is now on the same side of the tracks as the donald.
He has been there 22 years.
It is rare in governments or business for this to happen with the same president.
Try something different.....but in the words of that great Hawthorn coach
...Do Something.
A new President will unite us for a little time.
It may or may not work. But so far Ed has given as 1 flag in 22 years.
Not an A plus.

Thanks Wolfy. Although that's not what everyone was saying 10 years ago!

Well said Mason Cox. It's the truth of it.

Unfair and misconceived to compare Eddie with Donald Trump.

I can understand that you’re angry with the club now because of last night’s performance, but what did you really expect them to say? That we’re hopeless, that the list is no good, that the club needs to rebuild?Did you expect them to rant like an angry supporter on a message board like this?

I have said it all along in 2012 I put it on nicks that bucks will be coach till 2030 and it will be 2 decades of bs as long as Eddie is president Buckley is the coach wouldn’t surprise me bucks stayed on well into the 2020 decade for the next 5-6 years easy bank on it and we will have the same bs situation year after year we will be in the same list next year they won’t make the changes at all all Eddie wants is to screw up the supporters and use us as $$$$$$$
