Given that we'll want to draft Nick Daicos with our first pick next year, is there any advantage from a drafting perspective in finishing low on the ladder? |

In terms of drafting Daicos, wherever we finish, won’t make any difference to our ability to draft him.
In terms of our positioning at the 2021 draft, obviously the lower you finish on the ladder, the more you have to work with in regards to either your overall trading or drafting options.
Example - If we finished bottom four, we could secure Daicos and likely get a pick back later in the order. If we finished top four, we would still secure Daicos but potentially have to give up a little something extra later in the draft.
Should we trade out our future first rounder, we would still secure him but the permutations become a bit different on the night. |

I would have thought the lower we finish the better, but only if someone doesn't call out his name before we have our first pick. Let's say we have fourth pick and someone doesn't call out his name till pick 5. Then we have fewer points we need to secure him with our second pick. And we can always go into deficit for the following year. |

I would like to think that our team will be well versed in which clubs would be likely to make an offer on him and at what position. This would then be considered in potential draft options and perhaps even trading of drafts.
It wouldn't surprise me to see us trade away our 14 and 6 and next year's first-round to get inside the top ten for this year. Trading away next year's first-round won't jeopardise our ability to pick up Daicos.
Maybe I'm too confident in our team's ability to understand and 'work' the system however... _________________ There are 10 types of people in this world, those that understand binary and those that don't. |
