Post subject: Staggering Patience for the Inept! | |
|
One of the frustrating and often staggering issues in our list management over the years is the sheer amount of seasons it takes for us to evaluate (I'll be blunt) uselessness of players who simply after 10 matches won't make it. Yet we somehow give them 3,4,5, 6 and often 7+ seasons to delist.
Examples over last decade:
* Lachie Keefe: 7 seasons
* Ben Sinclair: 7 seasons
* Marley W: 5 seasons
* Jack Frost: 4 seasons
* Adam Oxley: 6 seasons
* Tim Broomhead: 7 seasons
* Jack Ramsay: 5 seasons
* Corey Gault: 5 seasons (yes correct)
* Ben Crocker: 4 seasons
* Rupert Wills: 5 seasons
* Flynn Appleby: 3 seasons
* J Thomas: 11 and counting
* Max Lynch: 4 years and counting
Yet we are geniuses in evaluating Rising Star winner Jaidyn Stephenson after
2 seasons and a Covid-19 cluster f......k season. Understand injuries have curtailed some but most of the above "revealed themselves" after 1-2 seasons.

I think that this staggering patience also applies to coaches and assistant coaches. _________________ Free Julian Assange!!

Reckon most lists would have cloggers like this. I always thought Oxley showed something. Thomas always had potential, his 2018 was fantastic but the last two seasons should be enough to see this his last contract. _________________ The match day thread is for unfiltered BS knee jerk reactions. Well done on spending all that time, but if you do the same exercise with the other 17 clubs and you will find a similar result.
So do it properly and waste more of your time on comparing to all the other clubs. _________________ "You must be a parking ticket, cuz you got fine written all over you" Glen Quagmire |

It’s definitely that annual lull between the trade period and draft night.
In fairness, four of those seven who had long gone, also received second chances, so at least one other club saw something in them. In the end, that just vindicated Collingwoods decision.
So by extension, would you rather be remembered for keeping players too long or letting them go and then having them go on and embarrass you down the track. Players like Hambling and Houli spring to mind.
Every club has their skeletons but I would love to be that fly on the wall when some of those third time around contracts are discussed and then approved.
P S Taberner has been at the Dockers for seven seasons. Sometimes but not often, a clubs patience is rewarded also. |

I get where you are coming from, BUT... for that analysis to be completely unbiased, you have to list all the players in that same period who might have lasted only 2-3 seasons or less, who got delisted/traded out?
Appleby won us over with that crunching tackle of Cockchin, on debut against Richmond in 2018.
If Wills was getting delisted on minimum wage, then that is list suicide!
I was very sorry Oxley didn't get more opportunity; very reliable IMO.
We also have players like Kyle Martin, who had a gutful of coach numpty and walked out from lack of opportunity in average seasons. _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

Sinclair was a terrific player when they found his right position: backline but he had dodgy hammies. He should not be on that list. His pace scared teams. His was unfairly judged by a few muppets ...... on Nicks. _________________ “I even went as far as becoming a Southern Baptist until I realised they didn’t keep ‘em under long enough” Kinky Friedman |
