Post subject: WE ARE going to be very young team aren't we? | |
|
Wow, with Langdons departure today, by my reckoning, that now makes 12 players we have now retired, moved on, or delisted. Pretty sure its about 12 guys now gone. Some are Vets, like Reid, Dunn, Beams, Varcoe, Langdon. and add Treloar to that list too. Obviously this means our age demographic will now plunge. and id say next season, we will be a very young Collingwood team, that runs out, maybe the youngest in years ? Im actually pleased about this, as i felt we were getting a tad old in our list, and i dont want us to end up like Geelong, the arse will fall out of them when their oldies all go at once.
Youthful enthusiasm can be great for a Club, a shot in the arm, so i say, bring on the kids. build for the future, youth is the way too go, with a bit of maturity too, like Pendles, Sidey, Roughead, Taylor adams, etc. The perfect blend , too move forward out of this crazy covid season. ! _________________ Poverty exists not because we cannot feed the poor, but because we cannot satisfy the rich.

Supposedly we are now required to take six players at the draft ( happy to be corrected if I heard it wrong )
This would normally give us a final pick in the nineties as our current draft order stands. However, the general expectation is that clubs won’t pick any where near as many players because the lists have been reduced.
We could potentially find ourselves with two or three ( consecutive ) picks in the lates 60s / early 70s. If that was the case, that’s at least better than trying to correctly call out the ninety ninth best junior in the draft.
Conversely, we may yet pick up a recycled player in the next day or two before final list lodgements.
The point being, with so much uncertainty surrounding the Vic juniors capabilities in 2020 and so few players to be called out, it’s probably not a bad year to have a few later picks on draft night. |

It's been a fairly turbulent year - the kind of year that might see good players slide from lack of exposure. We might see a Scott Burns (pick 90) or a James Hird (pick 79) come through. Only time will tell. _________________ We shall set our course by the stars and not ships that pass in the night |

Wit the exception of Stevo, who is young anyway, and Treloar, and maybe Varcoe (9 games), the rest of those blokes didn't play too many games in 2020
So while our squad will arguably be younger, probably not much change on the park _________________ https://forever.collingwoodfc.com.au/sav-sinks-the-dockers/ |

I am actually delighted that we have opened up so many spots on the list.
Whilst we have lost a great deal of experience, we still have a solid core of players with finals credentials.
The number of opportunities for young players to step into the breech has not been this high since around 2005-2007...
Kelly, Brown C., Brown T., Tohill, Keane, Wilson, Bianco, Rantall, Murphy, Quaynor, Noble, Cameron, Daicos, Sier, Ruscoe, Lynch plus McInnes and a few other draftees all have legitimate chances to establish themselves in a team that still has finals chances.
Not all will make the grade, but they cannot fall back on the excuse that there was not opportunity to do so.
If we traded in next years' first rounder for, say, pick 11 (North)- that would give us 11, 14 & 16. Pray that McInnes slides down the order past 16..
We could acquire some tall timber to fill gap deficiencies.
Hopeful that our rebuild is topped off by snagging an excellent Football Manager (could be Walsh's deputy or Nick Maxwell). Would love to see Buddha Hocking back in the fold next year- he works extremely well with the young players... _________________ Firm in the belief that number 17 flag is only months away... |

The above is a perfect example of the hysterical overreacting when it came to losing the players we lost.
Only 3 of them were getting games semi regularly.
Not sure about each of those players contribution in the wins they played in and whether or not it was the reason why we won. I guess the flip side is did we lose games we would have otherwise won if those 3 were in the side?
In any case, only 3 of those players played occasionally and I have no issue with kids taking those 3 spots in 2021. _________________ Beware the swooping Magpie. |

This is a really interesting look at what we are actually losing in the trades, retirements and delistings _________________ I think therefore I think - I think |
