A swap between Brisbane and Collingwood

We give Brisbane pick 70

In return we get 66 & 68

^ ^ ^

Just to clarify, they also receive a future fourth rounder with our pick 70.
It’s just some house keeping to help reduce any deficit we would take into 2021 after securing McInnes.
By my understanding, the deadline for swapping picks has arrived, so any swapping of our future first rounder would now have to be done on the night.
No biggie, those conversations would have been going on for weeks.

I’m still hoping for pick 2 but given we need to add double digits to our list next season, I’m doubtful we can make it happen.

i think what we did was sound list management. the failure only exists because we got jack shit for quality players in Treloar and Stevo. sadly, getting them their salary off the books became more important than the draft returns.

i think in the future we need a very astute salary cap manager. it is the secret to success in the NFL. it is becoming the secret to success in the AFL.

Was James Hird really a pick 69 ? Bloody hell, that is just amazing, just shows there is hidden gold late in the draft. I recall Swannie was a very late pick too, was he not. ?

Hird was pick 79 according to wikipedia. I love a good Cinderella story. Shame his turning into a Wes Craven movie.

It was dodgy as hell the rules were changed to stop it from happening again
Basically Sheedy and Hird got together and somehow Hird has massive injuries that put everyone off selecting him. Then suddenly Hird was OK

You will be lucky to do better than Chris Grant at pick 105.
The Dogs had to fill their final spot and the decision was made to pick anyone over 6’3” because they already had more than enough mids on their list.
The rest is history.

Nick Maxwell, although technically pick 103, he captained a premiership team coming off a rookie list. Hard to beat that.

^ Despite recent flags, i think Tiger fans still get palpitations over the draft when they picked Tambling, before Buddy. ! Could not happen to a nicer team. !

I know it’s off topic but I still have the clubhouse leader as the Dees with the first two picks in the 2009 draft and selecting Scully and Trengove and then the Tigers pounce on Martin at three. The Dees virtually got nothing out of picks one and two, while Martin is in the conversation as the best of all time.
