Post subject: Faster Ball movement and Forwards | |

With the 'man on the mark' tweak, I am now wondering if this is going to make it more difficult for teams to function well who have large/slower moving forwards. Maybe a smaller forward set-up will be the 'go'? Interested in the comments of others .... |

Its going to be interesting.
Those elite players who can sell a dummy such as Pendles,Daics, Sidey etc will benefit, after all, the rule plays to their strength.
But its not that simple, The 'running off your' line rule could also be more strictly enforced. So the player on the mark just needs to watch the opponents feet.
The issue which will make every supporter angry, and a good reason for scrapping this rule:
The AFL has deemed that certain runups which Arc are legal. For example, if Franklin is having a shot at goal after the siren , he can run off his line because thats his natural style.
So WTF is going to happen when the man on the mark is nailed to his spot...Franklin starts his run-in, He Arcs, doesn't complete the kick, but keeps running ..which by that stage he is already 2~3 metres off the mark. |

I reckon 'crumbing small forwards' will be key this year. |

Moving the ball quickly into the forward line will help any NATURAL forward, whether they are 170cm or 210cm.
The whole premise of moving the ball quickly is to allow the forwards to be no more than one out in a contest. That helps any forward regardless of their height. Having said that, the forward still needs to read the ball quicker than the defender and you are still reliant on your team mates giving you that space to work in.
Quick ball movement certainly helps but it’s not the be all and end all to kicking a winning score. |

Quick ball movement isn't something we do, its all about defense, and retaining possession and if that means slowing down play and chipping backwards... so be it....
No seriously, a lot of things you guys say above are quite valid BUT I doubt that regardless of whatever the new meta is... looking at our past we may try to 'play fast' for a game or two before we regress to bad old habits... especially if we start chasing wins (read as not losing...) because we've lost our first few games...
I actually think Bucks can't help himself _________________ All Aboard!! Choo Choo!!! |

The rule won’t help us much unless we clean up our disposal and stop the shitty turnovers. _________________ Human behavioural studies suggest people who use a lot of swear words tend to be more honest & trustworthy. |

I could be wrong but I still think he needs to kick the ball over the man in the mark, the starting point would be off the line? That makes it hard as he can play on off the line where others can’t.. _________________ The match day thread is for unfiltered BS knee jerk reactions.
