I get the Blight comparison but yeah, if Clarko is available I think you'd be silly not to try... Mal didn't even last 1 season at the Saints as I recall. Performance based contract and not being starry-eyed enough to give him whatever he wants (money/length) seems like the solution - not something we've been great at in the past but if he won't agree then he's not the right guy for us IMO

^ I agree. I simply think you'd want to have a satisfactory understanding of why he was parting ways with Hawthorn, if that occurred.

WC and MM also parted ways, and our club grabbed MM.

True and that worked well.. was certainly a coup for Eddie, we were almost always in contention or thereabouts (except when we tanked for draft picks).

So its not set in stone, but blight was a disaster for the saints, as was MM and DP for Carlton. I'm sure there would be more examples of both cases if we bothered looking for them.

Yeah, DP was a disaster for both Carlton and DP.

I wonder if he wishes he'd stayed at North.

^ Pagan walked into Carlton just before they were penalised for salary cap breaches, which set them back a decade or more.

Not that I'm complaining Wink

Prediction from Buckley's presser tonight. "We got nutted at the clearances."

He should definitely walk if we lose to Carlton next week.

If the coaches name was Matty Knights we would have replaced him about 6 years ago and we would have probably replaced his replacement by now.

But it’s Nathan Buckley a favourite son. So sign him up now for another 3 years, because I quite enjoy trying to work out where our next goal is coming from.

His face told the story tonight. I don't mind what happens as long as we become a stronger team, no matter whom is at the helm.
