Mackay got off because he didn't do anything wrong. He didn't choose to bump, he went straight at the ball, with his arms reaching out towards it. A collision occurred, and there was an injury, but that's just the way it goes. There are inherent risks in playing a contact sport.
The commentary around the incident was ridiculous. It was to the effect of there was an injury, so Mackay must be suspended. Gleeson on behalf of the AFL submitted at the tribunal that Mackay should not have attempted to get the footy because of the risk of a collision and that it was therefore unreasonable to do what he did. I thought that the AFL was supposed to uphold the laws and traditions of the game, not change them to attempt to suspend a player that did nothing wrong.
Extending Gleeson's argument, which is the AFL's argument, any player leaping for a mark that hits a player in the head with a knee should be suspended. Any team mate that kicks a ball into Daicos' face (can't remember who did that on Monday) should be suspended, as Daicos was too close so it was unreasonable to kick the ball.
Leigh Matthews showed he does not understand and should not be commenting, when he asked whether Mackay "had enough duty of care?". I wouldn't want him as my lawyer.

But as the commentator said, he accidentally grabbed one guy in the eye then accidentally stood on the next one.
Accidents do happen eh.

Dirty Duckwood is an AFL lovechild, untouchable, that prick, i saw the film, raked a guys face and gets a paltry fine, NO suspension. Total joke the MRP, De Goey gets the arse for bugger all. Bloody Michael Christensen should be ashamed of himself, an ex Magpie too.

To me Christian still being a Collingwood life member is a gob smacking conflict of interest. His life membership should be suspended whilst he is on the MRP. Once he retires from this position, it can be handed back to him. How the AFL condones this situation is beyond rational and logical thought.
