The Suns have come out and said they are prepared to offer up their 1st round pick this year, if a suitable trade can be done.

Have we got the collateral to win a bidding war for it?

I think our list will have reached close to tipping point for youth after we add Daicos and a likely minimum ( but still to be confirmed ) two more draft picks.
I’m not sure of the wisdom in trading away any ready made quality in order to bring in more youth again.
Even if we did manage a trade, the Suns pick would only get swallowed up by the Daicos bid anyway, so strategically it wouldn’t make much sense to take it to draft night.
Can’t see it happening for a number of reasons.

How about this?

If the Suns ended up with pick 2, we trade someone to get that pick 2 and then do a deal with North for the one pick (and give them something small to help them agree - like a third round pick). As part of that deal we agree to keep our hands off whoever they want with the one pick (in return, they agree not to pick Nick Daicos). That way, North still get the one pick, we get the two pick and Daicos will only cost the third pick which is way less points than the one pick).

Actually we could do that deal with whoever has the two pick. Maybe Hawthorn wants Grundy?

If we then lost Sidey and Pendles in free agency deals, might we not in the aggregate, also get a compensation pick next to our actual pick (five).

Three top 5 talents. That's how you do a rebuild. Then the Poulters and the McCrae's etc., don't have to be stars, they could just be solid role players next to the big three!

Dont even know if this is the year to do it? Is there a generational key forward coming through that we could pair with Daicos and another amazing mid prospect?

This would be a ballsy move.

Yes it would be ballsy but there is as much chance of Daicos slipping through to the fourth round and allowing us to still get in a first pick before him.
And “ trade someone for pick 2 “ always sounds very simple when you say it quickly. Nice try though 😉

There isn’t much on offer in the way of talls this year anyway. That’s on the record by those who know. Sam Darcy has come from the clouds but he will be at the Dogs anyway, so that’s already the best Vic tall off the table.
The club will start next year with almost 20 players ( ? ) who will have played under 20 games. Personally, I think that’s more than enough to work with.

As mentioned we should look at trading Steele Sidebottom for Gold Coast's pick 19. He could secure a 3-4 year deal on great cash and provide on-field support to the Suns and we keep adding talent to the mix. Sure we may need to get creative to ensure such a pick doesn't get chewed up in the Nick Daicos points bid.

NOT Grundy, bloody hell, big mobile ruckmen dont grow on trees. Hes only a few very good games away from peak form. Keep him. Suns chairman sounds a real smart arse, saw him interviewed On the Couch. Poor bloody Riewoldt, said, " but the Suns do need to win games, and premierships, surely" and the Suns guy snapped back, " You wouldnt know Nick, you played for a Club thats won one Premiership in 130 yrs, hey"?. I actually felt bit sorry for Nick.!

Jesus this thread. It’s a foregone conclusion we get Daicos and probably a few last picks at the dregs. Ain’t going to change.

I went to watch Daicos play for the Chargers last Saturday - we ain't gunna do better.

We'd be better to trade for players, not picks.

And as good as he was, it was still one of his “ quieter “ games this year.

I tend to agree it would be preferred to get a ready made player who could step into our best 22 but the issue remains, we don’t have much at all to offer up. It’s great if you land the Hail Mary but not so great if we only land Nicks next whipping boy.
Adding another competent senior player or two is also the best way to ensure an individual puts his best foot forward because the pressure then comes from below. You don’t necessarily get that with a club full of kids who are happy just to get the odd senior game in their first year or two.

One possible option could yet be our 2022 first rounder ( this may be subject to AFL rules ) but you’re only chasing your tail if you keep putting that on the board every year. Having said that, you could at least chop that first rounder up and do a lot with it.
There’s going to be a lot of tough calls made during the trade period.
