Ross Lyon coached them 2007 —-2011

Luke was President of the AFLPA as well so would have insights in to a lot of candidates. Excellent choice,

It’s not all about Lyon, but at least we can be confident that any decision surrounding him will now be made in full knowledge of his potential weaknesses, ability to deal with setbacks or struggles with people management, given Ball’s firsthand experience as a senior player under him.

Would not consider he was selected for that in depth knowledge of Lyon he has
If they say Lyon is defensive oriented coaching. No thanks
What would the panel be wanting. I don’t know which coaches available are attacking football prone and would these be preferred by this panel of five
Wonder all you like Baz only if you were to choose it be attack direct footy

Well, they got this decision right at least.  Luke Ball is extremely well credentialled for the task. |

Good appointment.
Don't know whether he's a proper "outsider" due to his past history with the club, but I think it's an appointment that will be well received by the supporter base.

There a a myriad of names going around—senior experienced coaches (Lyon)
Young ones in the system for awhile (Yze) or young Mitchell
Ball has first hand knowledge of Lyon —-but Graham Wright has equal first hand knowledge of Sam Mitchell
