^ Fair enough. Guess it's a matter of 'wait and see' of how this plays out.
Though I agree Teague is dead man walking and Carlton will have a new coach next year. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |

In a way I kinda wish they would hire Buckley, but I suppose I shouldn't wish that upon him (if he fails) - or upon us if he succeeds
Carlton's defence sucks so Lyon might suit them. Losing culture for >2 decades will be hard to turn around though, and they haven't shown any patience

Emmm I'd say 100% yes after listening to him interviewed in the past on SEN, yeah he would. _________________ All Aboard!! Choo Choo!!! |

I recall Choco saying a few years back that he dreamed of coaching Collingwood, and that his Pies captains jumper is the only one he has framed on his wall at home. Choco is my man. |

Yes. And look what happened.
After the Tim Watson fiasco, everyone in footy said it'd never happen again. But Eddie thought he knew better. If only NB had listened to his manager and not accepted Eddie's madness... He could have learnt the ropes at another club first...
And Eddie doubled down on it on Footy Classified last week. Sheesh...
(Not that Mitchell is jumping into senior coaching straight from the media, of course... But even Clarkson publicly warned against it.) |
If you want to blame, then how can you possibly blame E.M & not MM????????
The bloke signed a CONTRACT to stay & help NB. Did he do that? Or did he f.ark off & bag the club & NB constantly?
How many flags did Beveridge play in before he become a premership coach.?
There is no formula.
... |
If MM had stayed, would this have helped NB? No, of course not!
Two bulls in the same paddock, etc.
Who cares about playing in flags? Bevo was not parachuted into the job without any experience. That's what matters.
There is no formula that guarantees success.
There is a formula that seems to guarantee failure: without a proper selection process, just parachute someone into the job with no coaching apprenticeships elsewhere. 'Cos then he has to do his apprenticeship on the job with the clock ticking. It's setting him up for failure. (Look at Voss at Brissy, for example.)
BTW, the debate wasn't about EM. I asked why everyone loves Mitchell so much. This led to the quoted stuff.

Did she?
If she did, I must have missed it.
He played a pretty straight bat on it, I thought. |

First (available) people I'd call for their views on our direction, and could do the job:
Paul Roos
Garry Hocking
Mark Williams
Blake Caracella
Brad Scott
I'm sure I'd prefer Beveridge or Longmire to Clarkson.
You'd definitely want Longmuir's (& MMs & GBs) open input if possible.
Mitchell Voss Leppitch & Yze are way too risky for me.
I'd rather we considered a plan for Hodge.
I'm sure there are 10-20 others from left field who would be exciting options.
I'm hoping Banger will do really well and surprise all. |

Williams, no handovers.... just let him coach our side to success his way, no promises other than being highly competitive... _________________ All Aboard!! Choo Choo!!! |

Challenge with an untried coach is that if things dont improve relatively quickly, we all start death riding them because they "cant coach". In hiring a 'proven' coach, at least that question doesnt get raised if in the first couple years you dont see immediate improvement. I think Teague is a great example of this - and will likelty be chopped to appease the fans.
I'm not necessarily saying this is the right/or wrong approach, just an observation. In the corporate world you always hire a McKinsey or some other restructuring "expert" to come in and do the to cutting, because the board and shareholders will never question that its the right thing to do...
With that in mind, as well as the additional burden/scrutiny you get coaching the Pies, I am a little wary of a rookie coach. Maybe they are a great coach, but the other baggage that comes with our club (that you dont get at many others) detracts form your ability with the x's and o's so to speak.
Whichever way we go, I feel comfortable having Wright at the helm (for exactly the same reason I suppose - he's a 'proven' operator) and am excited to see the young guys for the rest of this year, and then what we can dish up with new stewardship next year and beyond. _________________ It's never as good/nor bad as it seems... |
