One of those blokes who gives his all each and every week
Can be equally as frustrating to supporters as he can be our saviour at times with his efforts
Hope he gets whatever he wants in his retirement
Good luck chris thanks for the service

You would think a few WAFL clubs would put their hand up for him and give him an assistant coach playing role. Has all the credentials.

Very sad day. But as others have mentioned, we all knew this was coming.

I really thought that he could have played one more season, but as he said himself, he can feel the game getting tougher, not easier. And he has put his family first. That and the club is in a strange spot right now; no coach, board issues, no finals....

At 33, maybe it is better to leave now whilst he is still contributing and playing well.

Bloody love ya Mayney... meet a lot of footballers and other well known people and Chris is a gentleman.

For the 2018 GF, I had "MAYNE" put above the #16 on a Collingwood jumper, wore long Collingwood socks, playing shorts and had a big blonde afro wig. I had a few people ask to take a photo with me Laughing . Man I really wish we got up that day, would make news like this a little easier to read.

I wonder if Freo would consider giving him a year? Or if he'll end up at a WAFL club? He previously played for Perth Demons.

Maybe we'll see him again in a coaching role someday? Good luck Chris!

Well done Mayney. A vital cog in our backline.

Another 245 games worth of experience leaving the club.

Let’s hope Mayne passed as much of that hard earned experience on to the young kids who were lucky enough to play with him

I’m sure he would have

I'm sorry to hear he is retiring. I thought he was in good enough form to keep going another year. Just against West Coast Eagles last weekend he more than did his job. This after I thought he was gone at the end of last season. Shows how you can get it wrong. Best wishes to Chris in whatever he decides to do next year. Hope he's not lost to football in some capacity.

I shall always remember him saying in some interview or another how in his first year at Collingwood, he would arrive for training and just sit in the car in tears. He would need to call his wife to help him muster the courage to go into the club. Crying or Very sad

Then in his first off season at Collingwood, he found the mental strength to work his butt off and came back for the pre-season fitter and stronger. From thereon in, he became an integral part of the team.
On the playing field, he personifies courage and determination. Off it, he has set a great example of dedication, commitment and resilience.

I admire him hugely for his ability to get the best from himself and be a decent person in the process. Like Presti above, I will miss him heaps!!!
May life always be good to him and his family.

Thanks Chris; a great servant to both clubs.
All the best for 2022 and onwards.

Would have loved to have seen you with a premiership medal in 2013 or 2018.

Happy retirement to Chris.

Had a very tough first season with us, but his turnaround was outstanding. Showed plenty of resilience and character to overcome that adversity.

Very rare an athlete takes responsibility for his failings, gets fitter, becomes vegan, commits to a positional change and then succeeds. Congrats Chris
