Post subject: Recruit Experience at all LevelsReply with quote

Outside the likely (and hopeful) recruitment of N Daicos and Y Dib in the National Draft, the Pies need to recruit off-field experience to augment the on-field youth. Seeing Carlton operate with the "training wheels on" it only serves to remind that the Magpies require hardened, tough experience:

Coach Preference:

1. Clarko
2. C Scott
3. B Scott
4. M Williams
5. D Pyke

(all experienced and credentialed)

List Manager:

1. Stephen Wells: half in half out at the Cats. Proven
2. Jason Cripps: has put together the best under 25's squad in the league
3. Simon Dalrymple: Bulldog tour-de-force recruiter
4. Kinnear Beatson: Swans guru
5. Brad Lloyd: Licuria chasing this Blue wantaway

C. Assistant Coaches:

1. Justin Leppitsch: proven astute operator
2. Shaun Burgoyne: get in early Wrighty!
3. Shane Mumford: Ruck Coach (sorry Mark Jamar)

D. Matured aged Recruits:

1. Tom Lynch (Crows): Delisted free agent with mentoring skills and abilities
2. Tyson Stengle: Delisted free agent. Redemption complete in SANFL
3. Luke Parker: sneaky one I know, but FREE AGENT and gettable. Ask yourself one question, if he was to replace Sidebottom and his wage for 2022, who would have the most impact on our team for the next 3 years???

E. New Board post EGM:

1. Jeff Browne
2. John Bertrand
3. Any Galbally Smile
4. Max Grundman
5. John Brumby
6. Sally Capp
7. Anne Marie Sparkman (Ok I was struggling for a 7th)

F. Fitness:

1. Andrew Russell: great to steal another from the Blues. Cmon Wrighty, he is one of yours

(Apologies Pete Evans)

Yes they do
Collingwood is not a suburban club where you can replace the board on a whim
Collingwood is a multi million dollar club with multiple long term contracts
Having a board with no knowledge of previous board decisions will cost us millions and take years to undo the mistakes.
If you think Gill the AFL and other clubs will go easy on our new board your extremely naive
The corporate world will rip us apart

All the assistant coaches interviewed for the job have at least a dozen years of assistant coaching in their CV's and all except for Graham have credentialed playing experience at AFL level. Seriously what more do we need from a prospective coach? 10 years of senior coaching at AFL level? If that's the case let's get Nathan Buckley back. And add myself to Rudey. I don't want to get rid of Paul Licuria or Peter Murphy from the board.

There is one thing you can guarantee about an experienced coach.
They were all inexperienced when they first started out.

Jaymie Graham played for the Eagles.

Murphy I don't mind but Licuria has broken the trust valve.

I guess it doesn’t matter how many AFL games you play. It’s the fact you’ve been in the AFL system and have the aptitude to adapt to ALF coaching. Personally I would have preferred a player who’s played in a premiership team - guys like Voss, McRae and Kingsley, but it shouldn’t be the determining factor. Clarkson had an undistinguished playing career and Malthouse happened to be in the right place at the right time to play in a premiership team. I don’t know enough about Graham to form an opinion of him. The others I know more because they have much higher profiles.

Collingwood have paid staff
They have a CEO
these report to the board.
