Premier Dan has announced a lockdown for 7 days from 8 pm tonight. 5 reasons to leave home, schools closed etc, as usual. |

We can't keep locking down huge areas of regional Victoria if they zero cases detected. |
The ABC blog specifically reports that the lockdown will be confined to Melbourne. I assume they are confident because the information is being deliberately leaked to them - but I guess we will know, shortly. |
Channel 10 said be the Whole State be in Lockdown |
Dan just said "Victoria", so it does seem like someone fibbed to the ABC. |

Partly true, but there are also people in older age groups sitting on their arses too lazy to get the vaccine or have unfounded fears about AZ.
Doesn't help that the Queensland CHO is discouraging people from having AZ, which is exacerbating the hesitancy. _________________ | 1902 | 1903 | 1910 | 1917 | 1919 | 1927 | 1928 | 1929 | 1930 | 1935 | 1936 | 1953 | 1958 | 1990 | 2010 | 2023 | |

And we will be in lockdown 8 before August is up.
There aren’t going to be any finals in Melbourne, let alone the grand final. |

And there was me thinking, "I'll just start a final COVID thread - we're on the downhill run and we won't get to 200 pages with this one".
David, I'm taking suggestions for the full name of "Coronavirus 5". |

That's a serious concern, Dave. Putting aside the possibility of further, more dangerous variants or variants against which the vaccines are ineffective or less effective, the US experience demonstrates that 70% vaccine coverage isn't enough to stop the present variants. We need to watch what's happening there very carefully. Despite having reached their 70% vaccination target, their cases are up more than 40% in the last week and their deaths are up a bit over 35% (today, eg, it was over 112,000 new cases and more than 650 new deaths, from lows of just over 9,000 new cases and 250 deaths per day, each within the last 6 weeks).
The information from the UK is a little different. There, about 90% of adults now have antibodies to the virus - so that the extent of transmission and exposure means that there may be some more natural immunity assisting the effectiveness of the vaccination program. That said, new cases in the UK are still running at a bit over 26,000 per day and the number of deaths each day is continuing to rise (the 7-day rolling average is now well above 80 deaths per day).
I'm hoping that the Doherty modelling is accurate - it would be good if we could get 80% vaccination coverage and continue with some basic public health and social measures (eg, distancing and masks in some high-risk settings). Time will tell, I suppose. |

At what point is this discrimination against the vaccinated?

Thinking about that, is "The Two Towers" an option for Coronavirus 5 (the 3 Hobbit movies are chronologically anterior)? |

I do see the logic, but personally I'd prefer to forget the Hobbit movies ever existed. _________________ All watched over by machines of loving grace |
