In Qld, 17 new community cases. The source of one (in Cairns) is under investigation. The rest are linked to the known (SE Qld) outbreak. |

In NSW:
233 cases - "at least 47 of those were infectious in the community" (per Gladys).
A male in his 20s passed away (per Gladys) - not vaccinated. That was one of 2 deaths yesterday.
From NSW Health's twitter:
Quote: | the source of infection for 130 cases is under investigation. Ninety-two cases were in isolation throughout their infectious period and 21 were in isolation for part of their infectious period. |
Quote: | Forty-seven were infectious in the community, and the isolation status of 73 cases remains under investigation. |
So, that's 141 "wild" cases today.
Some further details have emerged about the man in his 20s - he had no underlying medical conditions and was on day 13 of his isolation at home. He had complained of feeling a little fatigued and obviously took a dramatic turn for the worse. |

In Victoria, 6 new local cases and no new cases acquired overseas.
- 27,279 test results were received
The Government says that "Of the six new locally-acquired cases, investigations are continuing into three cases (including one reported yesterday). The remaining three cases are all linked to the current outbreaks and were in quarantine during their infectious period." |

^ I suppose we'll hear further at the presser later this morning. It is likely that what we have is the teacher whose positive test was reported yesterday and two family members or two other close contacts. That said, if they don't think they've got a good handle on what's happening, I guess it's lockdown 6.0. The PM's message at the Doherty Institute presser earlier this week was to go early and go hard - in that context, he specifically name-checked Victoria, SA and Qld (and contrasted their responses with NSW). |

A bit more detail on Victoria from the ABC blog:
Quote: | As we've just heard, three of the locally acquired COVID-19 cases in Victoria are still under investigation, meaning the source of their infection is still not known.
One is the teacher at Al-Taqwa College, which was reported yesterday afternoon.
Another is a senior player from the Newport Football Club. The club confirmed the player tested positive yesterday.
He played a match against West Footscray at Shorten Reserve on July 31, and started feeling unwell during the week so did not attend training on Tuesday.
"On learning of the positive case, Newport Football Club immediately advised all players & officials to get tested and isolate until further notice," the club said in a statement. |

In NSW:
Quote: | NSW recorded 262 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night. Of these locally acquired cases, 129 linked to a known case or cluster – 96 household contacts and 33 are close contacts – and the source of infection for 133 cases is under investigation. |
Quote: | One hundred and ten cases were in isolation throughout their infectious period and 29 were in isolation for part of their infectious period. Forty-three cases were infectious in the community, and the isolation status of 80 cases remains under investigation. |
So, that's 162 "wild" cases, the 262 is an all-time NSW high and they are still investigating the source of just over half of today's new cases. Also, 5 more deaths have been reported in NSW.
There is also a further lockdown, this time it's the Hunter Valley (the following is from the ABC blog):
Quote: | "The local government areas impacted are Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Port Stephens, Cessnock, Dungog, Singleton and Muswellbrook," Ms Berejiklian said.
"These community leaders and local leaders are being advised of this.
"That will commence at 5:00pm tonight and go until midnight next Thursday, so a week, similar to what occurred in Orange and hopefully, similar to what occurred in Orange, we'll see that community have their restrictions or stay at home lifted at that time.
"Having said that, I want to confirm the arrangements in the eight local government areas will be exactly the same as exists in Greater Sydney, including the Central Coast.
"So that means no school and the same stay at home provisions apply." |

I think we all know where this is going.

Quote: | Premier Daniel Andrews has been in discussions with public health officials this morning and says there will be a series of further meetings this afternoon, admitting “we are certainly very concerned” by the emerging cases in Victoria.
Mr Andrews arrived at Parliament a short time ago – at the same time Health Minister Martin Foley was holding a press conference – where he said “any cases that have been in the community whilst infectious are of concern to us, but I’ve got no announcements to make at the moment” on a potential snap lockdown.
He said the situation was “very rapid, very dynamic” and no decisions had been made.
“If you look at the Doherty [Institute] modelling, the Prime Minister’s been very clear, the federal Treasurer, everybody has been very clear about the fact there’s only one real way to deal with Delta outbreaks,” the Premier said, in reference to snap lockdowns.
“But it’s too early for us to say what will happen in relation to these cases. We’re still waiting on interviews, on test results, genomic sequencing. There’s a lot of work gone on this morning and there’ll be more of it going on throughout the day. And if and when I have more information to share with you and the Victorian community, I will.”
The Labor leader added that nobody should be banking on restrictions easing on Tuesday, in line with the two-week time frame outlined by the government when lockdown ended about nine days ago.
Asked if a snap lockdown was likely to avoid the situation in New South Wales, which recorded a daily high of 262 cases today, Mr Andrews replied “I can’t say”. |
