Brander is at least worth a look in the PSD for mine. _________________ Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down. |

The doubters:
* "he could put a price on his head"
* "may cost us $300,000...."
* "not sure either way"...
* "nonsensical player comparisons"
* "he might not be better than our emerging forwards"
People!! He was sacked by the Eagles today. he shall come dirt cheap financially and for FREE via a delisted free agency lever NOT pick 2 in the pre-season draft.
Can he be better than Jack Madgen and Cox? On the basis of what we know about Madgen and Cox whose careers are on the precipice of ending, Brander hardly represents a "hail mary'. _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

How many developing KPF's do we need?
Does having too many help or hinder their development? |
Of those listed, odds are that half of them wont ever be up to it.
With those that are left, some will end up as key position defenders.
And if history is anything to go by, one or more will be injured for a good chunk of their career.
Lets hope a bit of healthy competition for spots puts pressure on the others to train that bit harder.

Yep. The PSD will be used on a player that has not re-signed but hasnt been delisted either. Not for a Delisted Free Agent, which Brander now is. I doubt we'll use the PSD pick at all.
From the other thread, the only PSD players of consideration are:
Quote: | S. Reid (Swans). (Now 29 and has had the injury curse too).
K. Coleman (21, yet to re-sign. Previously linked in draft year).
C. Jiath (22, expected to re-sign with Hawks).
S. Stack (21, expected to re-sign with Tigers). |
Reid is a tad old and always hurt, Jiath and Stack will re-sign any day now. Perhaps Keidean Coleman could be gettable if Collingwood want him.
Dream scenario; Brander DFA, Coleman PSD, Daicos-Dib-possibly one more in the ND, Naish-O'Brien-Chugg in the RD (Might only have 2 picks). (Other players to think about Dumont & Constable, but lack of list spots). _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

You think if Brander offered greater certainty than the guys on our list he'd currently be a DFA? In fact, he'll need to find a new home to even be in the same discussion as our current guys. |

Mr Jackass- this is a very good point. I look at Brander's delisting as a 23 year old with 22 games over four years- his physique (195cm & 92 kgs) and wonder why he is off their list.
Buying him could be equated to buying a sausage- not really sure what you are getting and wondering why others bought chops instead...
Jack Darling is 191cms and 95 kgs and had a number of queries over him before he was initially drafted by WCE but has been an excellent forward over he journey.
I have a feeling that the Pies might invest in Brander- 2 year deal- to see what he can do. At the very least, he will heighten the level of competition for positions along the spine- Could he play the much-lamented 'Leigh Brown role'???
Whatever happens- I trust Graeme Wright to make a good call. _________________ Firm in the belief that number 17 flag is only months away... |

You know when you're at the local Trash & Treasure and you're looking through some old bloke's tools while the missus is talking to his wife about pot plants?
And you spot a decent looking hammer for $10 even thought you've already got 3 at home?
I reckon that's Brandner. |

Im not sure why the challenge is Madgen v Brander other than just a list spot.
I have been keen on Brander since before the trade period started. I think hes been played out of position and where he has played on the wing, as a key forward, he has actually done really well. To me that says huge upside.
However, given all of that Im staggered that the Eagles wont offer a contract or that other clubs didnt chase him at trade. It might be they know he will be delisted but why ??
Something seems a little off. _________________ "Even when Im old and gray, I wont be able to play but Ill still love the game"

Okay blokes, just to clarify - you are certain a delisted player doesn't have to re-enter the system via a draft of some sort?
If that's the case - then surely he can choose a club of his own choice?
Which might very well be Carlton! If so, why does he think he'll get a forward gig ahead of McKay and Curnow?

You know that hammer you wish you'd bought for $10, and the next bloke behind you picks it up after you've overlooked it, then you shrug and move on?
Then during the year, go to use those three hammers you've had in the shed, and they all break half way through the job? Well, that's our f#cking luck! _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

You get mislead where these footballers get drafted. Darling was a prodigious talent at junior level and deserved to get drafted in the top 10. Brander at junior level was an athletic footballer who played all over the field. He was certainly never settled as a forward at U18 level and that’s the way it’s panned out so far in his AFL. He shouldn’t have gone 13 in his draft. Think the drafters got misled by his athleticism and size. We made the same mistake with Sier. Because they look AFL footballers doesn’t mean they turn into AFL footballers. For that matter Jack Darling doesn’t look like a footballer. Dane Swan never looked like a footballer either. |

It's a free hit. Minimum tenure for minimum wage.
If he succeeds, then look for a better deal.
In any case, an upgrade on Madge. _________________ Jatsad - That is all |
