One can be delisted and the other likely picked up for free as a DFA. No brainer really. _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum

Not the best metric to use. As it stands:
* Brander was a top 15 draft selection vs Madgen a Cat B Rookie
* Brander 23 next season and Madgen 29 years old
* Brander scope to improve vs Madgen whose going south off a southern base
* Can most likely recruit Brander through DFA and delist Madgen whose Out of contract
* Brander more versatile than Madgen
My take is when you're rebuilding you have to cut deep and fast vs perpetuating the inevitable. _________________ I love the Pies, hate Carlscum |

* Brander was a top 15 draft selection vs Madgen a Cat B Rookie
Not really relevant
* Brander 23 next season and Madgen 29 years old
Yes it says that in the Footywire comparison
* Can most likely recruit Brander through DFA and delist Madgen whose Out of contract
Equally we can sign Madge for a year and not draft Brander. Not sure what problem is being solved here

Is that what we’re doing by trading out Lynch and retaining Cox, WHE, Noble etc etc?
If Brander is the best option then by all means let’s pick him up, just not convinced yet _________________ https://forever.collingwoodfc.com.au/sav-sinks-the-dockers/ |

I think we should go for Brander.
Madgen is simply a depth option and always has been. I expect Wilson to overtake him as our preferred depth option if we have injury worries in defence. I'm not big on either Madgen or Wilson and neither are in our best team. But you have to have depth options.
Brander can play forward or defence and is much younger. However, I think he's better suited to FF and believe he'd be in out best 22 straight away. Would be interesting to see how he and Krueger fit in the same team and what that'd mean for Cameron too.
Even though they are not the same position, yes I'd much prefer Brander on the list to Madgen, but dont think it should come down to one Vs the other. _________________ A Goal Saved Is 2 Goals Earned! |

Brander as delisted Free agent.
Brander CHF & Kreuger FF. Mihocek as third tall
Surround them with Henry/Sidey/Ginnivan/Elliott etcetera.
Cox or Cameron off the bench as back-up ruckman.
I'm not a Madgen fan _________________ Firm in the belief that number 17 flag is only months away... |

Tend to agree.
Would add that Madge apparently has a 1 year extension on offer v Brander who hasn't yet been delisted as far as I'm aware.
Also not too sure why they're necessarily mutually exclusive. |

And can we wait until Brander is actually delisted before we go picking over the WCE carcass?
I'm inclined to think they will actually retain him now; as they have already either retired/delisted eight players, thus I'd be surprised if they make more. _________________ M I L L A N E 4 2 forever |

Yeah, I think they'll retain him. Already have had 7 or 8 other list departures and only SPS added via trade. |

Is it up to them? If we are into him he can walk out & come
Is he better than Madgen? |

Sure he can walk into the PSD - what is he waiting for?
Wouldn't you be nominating yourself by now if that were your intention?

No offers to trade from 17 other clubs and the Eagles wouldn’t have been asking for much.
Maybe, just maybe, clubs know a little more than we all like to think they do.
Strikes me as a little odd that a 195 cm 23 year old first round pick is virtually being pushed out the door by his club.
If we get him, so be it. Hardly think he would be the difference between anything we do or don’t achieve over the next couple years.
Personally, I would rather have neither and use the cap space for a quality player at some point in a year or two. You know, the ones that actually make a difference to the odd result. |

I’ve watched Brander. He doesn’t look like a key forward to me. I’ve watched him on the wing. He doesn’t look like a wingman to me. I can’t figure him out. Maybe it takes a smart coach who can figure him out and play him in a position that suits him and then he’ll become a good player. I have my doubts that will happen though because Simpson is a smart coach and he should know. Madgen on the other hand is easier to work out. He plays on medium talls or the third tall on the backline. I don’t think Madgen is in our best 22 but then I don’t think Brander is either. I personally prefer Krueger. |
