Reckon I can guess who the JPN horse was.  Makes me hungry just thinking 'bout it!
The pre-race experts' call that Vauban was way too short looks right now. One was quoted saying there was a 1 missing in front of Vauban's odds!! Faded badly.

Winners of the cups double incl.: Let's Elope (91), Doriemus (95), Might And Power (97), Ethereal (01).
Since 2002, the only favourites to win: Makybe Diva (04, 05), Fiorente (13).

Nah, I don't know how that stuff works, I'm a very seldom gambler. Just $5 on each for the win and place, plus a couple of others, one of which is still running.

Same here, mate. Haven't had a bet on the races since Melb. Cup 2 years ago. Tried to get on but was too confusing.
Just as well. My numbers ran nowhere, including dead last (pulled up), #8.

Melbourne Cup winner Verry Elleegant died while giving birth in Ireland.
Sydney-based part-owner Brae Sokolski:
“In layman’s terms, the foal position was in the worst position it could be in. They call it a ‘dog-sitter’ position. It was almost impossible to get the foal out. They couldn’t save the foal, and the foal caused a lot of internal damage to Verry Elleegant.
“They rushed her to a clinic, but they couldn’t save her. Verry Elleegant was insured, but it’s irrelevant. She was like a member of the family. I’ll never race another one that is better.” |
