Sheesh... What's happened to the All Blacks?
In the Rugby World Cup, Ireland are warm favourites to beat NZ. |

NZ 28-24 Ireland.
"New Zealand withstood three comebacks from top ranked Ireland and two yellow cards to win a gripping Rugby World Cup quarter-final 28-24 and stay on course for a record fourth title."
"Ireland's 17 game winning streak is over ...
Neither team deserved to lose a game befitting of a final but the world No.1's are gone." |

In a 2 horse race, you'd have to put a lazy $10 on NZ, @ $8.50 (IF they make the final). _________________ Donny.

Gobsmacking how short Sinner was to beat Baez in AO R3.
Somein like 1.004.
Sheesh, Sinner is the 4th seed, but Baez was the 26th... Not like a qualifier...
Sinner did win, 60 61 63. |

A teeny $5 returns $2500. A grand off the mortgage, $500 into Kels holiday account, a bit of play money for the weekend and a big one at the casino coming up on Sunday afternoon. |
Amazing. |

The mystery of baseball’s billion-dollar man, his interpreter and the betting scandal that rocked US sport
https://www.theage.com.au/sport/the-mystery-of-baseball-s-billion-dollar-man-his-interpreter-and-the-betting-scandal-that-rocked-us-sport-20240328-p5ffyr.html
'This all started last week, when the Dodgers fired Ippei Mizuhara, Ohtani’s minder, fixer, interpreter and close friend who had worked with him since he arrived in the US, and was almost always by his side. His sacking was a reaction to inquiries from the Los Angeles Times, who learned through their sources that Ohtani’s name had come up in an IRS investigation into Mathew Bowyer, a Californian resident who has allegedly been running an illegal bookmaking operation.
... Ohtani’s lawyers said he had been the victim of a “massive theft” and were alerting the authorities. Other reports detailed that $US4.5 million had been wired from Ohtani’s bank account to Bowyer. According to MLB rules, if a baseballer bets on a baseball game they’re not involved in, they could be banned for a year. If it’s a game they are involved in, it’s a lifetime ban. And if it’s an illegal bet on another sport, the MLB commissioner gets to set the penalty based on the facts of the case.
...
... wagering dollar, which has been growing ever since a 2018 Supreme Court decision effectively gave the green light to the industry. But it’s not legal everywhere. As of this year, 37 states have legalised some form of sports betting, along with Washington, DC and Puerto Rico. California is one of the holdout states, where it’s still against the law, as unfathomable as that sounds from an Australian perspective. And thus, some bookmakers like Bowyer (allegedly) continue to operate in the shadows. American sporting bodies like MLB are still coming to terms with the integrity implications of legalised gambling and how to operate in this brave new world.
...
“This is one of the most confusing, confounding, surprising stories that I’ve ever covered in 45 years of covering baseball. And we got a little bit more clarity on it today [in his press conference], but I’ve never seen a story switch as big as it did from one day to the next, between the interpreter and Shohei,” long-time baseball writer Tim Kurkjian said on ESPN’s SportsCenter. “We have to decide – are we going to believe him? I’m going to believe him based on what I saw today, but we still have a lot more information to come out. We still have a lot more questions to be asked.”' |

Way back, I was BIG into betting on the gee gees. Also dogs & Trots.
I tried quite a few but unsuccessful 'systems'. I found a book on betting. The very first paragraph was, "95% of punters must lose for racing's credo - 'The Sport of Kings', to remain."
From another book, "The vast majority of punters are long-term losers. Most estimates put it at about 97%."
But still, many punters reckon they win. Even when they don't. Some win (frinstance) $500 early in the day, then spend subsequent hours, giving it back, till their last bet (before the Missus drags them out of to Pub) wins at good odds. He's elated, thinking he's won, over all. But he's actually lost some $200.
If there were signs at the TABs and Pub TABs, stating something like, "Over 90% of you will lose." Do you reckon anyone would turn around and walk out ? No. They/we all want to be in the 10%.
* Well done, Skids, on recent successes. _________________ Donny.
